We had the good fortune of connecting with Ernesto Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ernesto, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been very creative and artistic. As a child I loved to design and build all kinds of things. I guess I already had what it takes to be an artist, this is why I knew I wanted to be an architect and became one. I didn’t know I would end up being an artist, I mean I always wanted to but I was busy working and never had the time. One day my husband and I were looking for a house to buy in Palm Springs and we saw a beautiful painting for sale in one of the model houses, we loved that piece but we couldn’t afford it, I told him I am going to paint something for our new house if we buy one. So we bought a house and I started painting in 2017. I always liked to sketch and paint but I didn’t realized how much I love it. This is my new passion at this point of my life. I guess it just happened to be the right time for me to become an artist.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I began to paint not long ago, I am still try to find my style or direction of where I want to take my artwork. So far I am very proud of myself, it’s always very excited to see a very positive reaction of people, family and friends when they see my work. In guess it was very easy for me to do what I do because I love it but to get to where I am in life it’s not been easy. It is always hard when you are from a poor family from Mexico, I started to work when I was about 10 years old but I knew if I work hard and I’m dedicated in school it would be a reward in the end. I am a dreamer and to make those dreams reality I had to be consistent and focus to make that happen. For me been poor as a child was hard but I never thought it was a bad thing or an obstacle, it made me who and where I am now. I want the world to know that faith is a powerful thing!.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would love to take my best friend to Palm Springs. This city has so much to offer to the visitors: Wonderful mid century architecture, museums, a tramway, beautiful landscapes, the best date shakes, excellent restaurants but my favorites are John Henry’s Cafe, Melvyn’s and Le Vallauris.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, of course. I think everyone has somebody that push us to do what we dream of. My family and friends were always there for me, specially my mom Lupita and later in life I met the love of my life, my husband Patrick who is my biggest supporter. I guess when your love ones believe in you it’s easier to make your dreams and goals a reality.
