We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by beauty. The beauty that encompasses our everyday lives the flowers the birds, the breeze, trees and butterflies the natural beauty of life. The moments we take for granted every breath we take for granted. The human experience is undescribable it’s happy and sad, deep and shallow weird and silly and so profound and there’s so much about what we are that we don’t even know yet. But my mission is to take this beauty and give it words, a melody, a picture a song
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is an encapsulation of the beauty of life, the recognizance of the divinity within and the honoring of my intersectionality being black, gay, gender non conforming, and an immigrant I think that’s what sets me apart. It’s hasn’t been easy I moved to Los Angeles at 18 right out of high school with only 2 suitcases and a dream of being an actor. What I got from Los Angeles was far more then I could’ve imagined, I found myself and stepped into my authenticity and began to hone all my crafts I’m now at 23 mostly a singer and I’m incredibly proud of my music as well as my journey. I learned to trust the universe and know that everything happens for a reason and that all the obstacles you face are preparing you to be the version of yourself that can handle all that you desire. I also learned that there are no coincidences in life the universe is always working on your behalf. I want the world to know that this is your home this is your planet no matter what skin tone, sexual orientation or gender or whatever you are you belong here. Growing up I was always an outcast never really fit in anywhere so my mission with my work is to create a world where everyone feels like they belong.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With the pandemic I’d say the best place to go is Malibu beach’s. I think Malibu is one of the prettiest sights in la the sunsets are gorgeous the beach is therapeutic it’s an all around very beautiful experience. Next to that are the hikes the Griffith hike or the famous Hollywood sign hike. And sushi stop is certainly where it’s at food wise there’s so much in California to see and do that’s why we love it here
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my High School choir teacher Barbara Benglian for shaping me into who I am today and giving me the life skills, wisdom and values I needed for my journey she always taught me to carry myself with courage, class, respect, and humility and her love and dedication is something I’ll carry with me throughout my life
