Meet Tara Lyn Emerson: Fitness Expert and Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Lyn Emerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara Lyn, what do you attribute your success to?
I’m in the people business! Connecting with my students, clients and fitness community is a very vital to my success. The thing that allowed me to really breakthrough and build impactful relationships with these people was telling my story. My story is unique and imperfect- just like me.. My clients really connected with who I was because many fitness professionals seem to have perfect bodies and every day show up with endless energy and motivation. I on the other hand was born with a neuromuscular disease which causes progressive nerve pain and damage to my lower limbs and feet. I was dealt a bad hand in life with my physical condition but I spend every day making the most I can out of it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a trainer and fitness instructor in Los Angeles since 2012. I began as a spinning instructor and then decided I should also become a personal trainer. I got certified with American Counsel of Exercise (ACE) as a trainer and weight management specialist. I continued my education and added on new credentials every year. In 2018 I was named by Class Pass as a top cycling instructor in Los Angeles. I built a following on Instagram by posting workouts people could follow along to and learn exercises from. Today I have over a 100k followers on IG. I am currently on a project with NordicTrack as a cycling instructor for their live platform, iFit. I have been featured on POPSUGAR Fitness and FabFitFun TV as a trainer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend come into town I would take them up to Malibu. Stop at my alma mater, Pepperdine university and show them the magnificent view from Hero’s Garden. We would visit Zuma Beach and take a day to horse back ride thru Santa Monica Mountains. grab some Malibu Yo frozen yogurt and eat some pizza back in Santa Monica at Elephante
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In Los Angeles it is hard to break into the fitness business. There are great trainers and instructors around every corner. So when you are brand new, you need a studio owner to give you a shot and say YES, even though you have zero experience teaching group fitness. My first YES came from the owner of a spinning studio in Redondo Beach, her name is Elise Hartley. She saw potential in me despite an empty resume. She believed I had the right spirit and because she believed, so did I!
