We had the good fortune of connecting with Eviana Farrar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eviana, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Nimbus Coffee was created through my love for coffee and all things fantastical. While I was studying law, I would spend a lot of time in coffee shops, it was a place of comfort. I have always found escape through reading fantasy. I saw that things could be shaken up a bit in these two realms. The coffee community can be so closed off, and in the fantasy communities there is room for more diversity. Nimbus coffee is a place where these two worlds collide to make a new and fun experience! We push the bounds of coffee by constantly creating new flavorful fun drinks; we strive to be creative, fun, and inclusive.
What should our readers know about your business?
Here at Nimbus Coffee we are constantly trying to push the bounds of coffee and create drinks that test your taste buds. We want to create magical moments that take our fellow wizarding community out of their ordinary, stressed filled, daily lives. Seeing the reactions on our customers’ faces when they receive their potions and try something new makes all the hard work worthwhile.
We are here today because we hold ourselves to a high standard. We don’t simply make beautiful looking drinks and snacks, we carefully construct each detail of each item on the menu. We ask ourselves, “What new high quality ingredients can we incorporate? What is the rarity behind it, and how can we make this interactive and complex?” We never settle for anything less and that’s evident in what we produce. It’s never easy creating new items, it takes a lot of research, reading and learning new skills in all aspects of bar creations, baking, and cooking. What we make is oftentimes judged as uncommon in the coffee community. That’s okay though, because we continue to be true to our vision and customers love these new coffee experiences.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely start with taking her to smaller coffee shops, like my own. I believe in helping fellow small businesses. We would definitely spend plenty of time at the beach and eat at local restaurants within Long Beach. Before Covid, I would take her to a local farmers market, as that is one of my favorite places to visit. I do appreciate a good glass of wine so we would maybe visit a winery . I also like being active so a good hike and some hot yoga would be among the mix of activities. Finally, to end the week, a nice spa weekend with plenty of mimosas. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom is my role model and inspiration. She is my biggest support system and the person who encourages me to always work hard for whatever I want to create. She pushes me to go after whatever I set my mind on, even when the rest of the world is telling me it is impossible. When I first set out to make Nimbus happen, the coffee community claimed a fantasy themed coffee shop would never be successful or keep up with third wave coffee shops. Being a single mom never stopped her from being successful and strong for me. I learned from her that I can do anything I set my mind to. She continues to work hard everyday so that we can achieve more together. Words can never express the love I have for her, my best friend and Co-Headmistress of Nimbus Coffee.
