We had the good fortune of connecting with Zaid Dahhaj and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zaid, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am unemployable. It’s not because I am incapable of being responsible, but because I don’t see the point in spending my precious time and energy making money for somebody other than myself in the long run.

Some personalities are meant to pursue their own path in context to work, and I am one of them.

I am still finding my way through this business maze, but things are slowly coming together.

To fail in this regard and work a traditional job for the rest of my life is not an option. My intention isn’t to disparage hard-working people putting food on the table, they have my respect.

I just want something more meaningful and starting The 2AM Podcast along with doing freelance work helps immensely with that pursuit.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am both a writer and a competitive soccer player. The two inform one another spectacularly because I can stimulate the need to express myself in two distinct ways.

Soccer is the only thing I truly know because I began playing seriously at four years old. Twenty years later, and it’s still the most reliable teacher I know. From competition to work ethic, I learn something new daily.

I’m more of a novice with only about three serious years of experience under my belt in context to writing. I gain the same satisfaction as with soccer, though, because it allows me to pursue excellence which is one of my top ten values in life.

By no means was this easy to achieve.

I’ve repeatedly experienced heartbreak in both domains, but one thing I’ve learned from the journey is to always get back up, regardless of life’s trauma or obstacles.

It’s a cliche for a reason because it works.

If there’s one thing that the world should know about me, it’s that I have an insatiable drive for personal development.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would explore nature with them.

I used to be obsessed with the city, but now they look ugly to me for the most part. Beauty inspires, hence my choice to get out into the wild. Big Sur, Yosemite, and Joshua Tree are always a treat to visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank the beautiful souls who inspired me on this journey. Some are people I know, and others are legendary historical figures.

A special thank you to my parents for nurturing my spirit and always allowing my curiosity to run wherever it desires.

A special thank you to Alan Watts, Terence Mckenna, Rumi, and many other great philosophers.

A special thank you to my comrades at The 2AM Podcast – Logan Scifres and Saied Ashour. Nothing compares to building something from scratch.

Those who I didn’t mention by name know who they are.
