We had the good fortune of connecting with Lanier McKinney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lanier, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
LM3 is about uplifting and creating structure for success. My artist development program is where I take time to develop you as an artist step by step. I offer professional industry standard training to help with stage performance, camera work and aspiring models. Confidence is key in everything you do especially when it comes to performing in front of a crowd. I teach individuals how to embrace their own unique style. It’s about body language, eye contact, intentions, angles, power, and creating a safe space for people to learn and grow from one another. I am all about teamwork, dedication, showmanship, sportsmanship, discipline and respect.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Lanier McKinney is from Huntsville, Alabama. He is a multi-talented professional dancer, choreographer, model and has credits as an actor in numerous films. Although he enjoyed dancing his whole life he began his professional career in Atlanta, Georgia in 2010. He went from being a freelance artist to a globally booked professional dancer. His most notable highlight and the longest-lasting opportunity was a lead dancer for the legendary superstar recording artist Mariah Carey. He also assisted with choreography on her Asia tour in 2018, and performed as her solo disco roller skater. He also assisted with choreography on her most recent Caution World Tour in 2019 as well.

His other following accomplishments include Beyonce Knowles in “Black is King,” Rita Ora featured on the Boy Band and Teen Choice Awards; Mary J Blige and ASAP Rocky BET Experience; P. Diddy on the BET Hip Hop Awards; Isabella Moner “Papi”,  Katy Perry; Betty Who; and Wiz Khalifa.

His acting career can be seen in the award winning films; Black Panther; Hunger Games; Bessie featuring Queen Latifa; Bolden; TV shows and commercials such as the Netflix series Marlon; Drunk History; Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

Modeling accomplishments include Ralph Lauren, New Balance, Macy’s, and Nappy Styles.

With over 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Lanier has officially started his own company, “LM3” which focuses on developing and mentoring up and coming talent seeking training and guidance in the industry. He also volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club for “Peace 4 Kids” in Compton, California which mentors the youth in foster care.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Marseille, France because its so rich in culture. I’m not really a planner when it comes to trips, I just go with what feels right and venture out discovering places.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a huge shoutout to God and both of my parents who have had my back since day 1! My friends and family have been a major part of my motivation as well. Keeping me grounded and focused on what’s important in life
