Meet John MF Davis: Owner of BHDT and Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with John MF Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what do you attribute your success to?
Keeping my morals. Business is tricky. Sometimes you feel like you have to do things that you don’t agree with for the betterment of the company or for success and that is not true depending on what your idea of success is. I found myself early on making pieces because I thought they would blow up and make me a lot of money… They didn’t. The pieces that made me the happiest, told a story and represent my thoughts and feelings while creating did the best and were most successful. Making decisions like not chasing the money but being true to myself in-turn still brought the money and more. Stay true to yourself and keep your morals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being Here Doing This, BHDT, is my art. Its how I can express my thoughts, feelings, and life lessons through clothing and content. Its helped me through some tough times in life as well as caused some but that’s apart of it. Working on BHDT has taught me some much about myself and helped me restore confidence in myself when I lost it. We often get caught up in the mistakes we’ve made in the past or worried about our futures but the only thing we can control is now. Working on this everyday reminds me that and staying in the moment has kept me away from anxiety and depression, which affects the majoring of the world today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a tough one because I’d say I’m a little bit of a nomad and can’t really call one place home but I love to eat and ill give some of my favorite places a shoutout:

Very diverse list lol The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to God first. All my ideas, designs, feelings everything comes from Him and is discussed with him to clarify the lesson I need to learn and teach in life. My Dad keeps me focused. Very business minded and thought provoking, a big part of the reason I am who I am today. My mom who is a listener and always supports my ideas. Specials shoutout to my Queens (X,Q,Y), you guys teach me more than you know. Shoutout Granny for helping with production, best seamstress around! Elexis, thank you for supporting me and encouraging me everystep of the way, love you cousin.
