We had the good fortune of connecting with Trèvon Slaten and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trèvon, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up I always felt like I was a natural born star. I would do anything to entertain my friends and family that would leave them in awh. I remember when I was a little kid I would always tell my mom that I am going to move to California one day and become a star. I can’t see myself working a regular job because I was born to stand out and be a light to the world. I love the feeling I get when someone tells me the heard my music and love or even when they send me videos of them singing along to my music. It validates me that I am on the right path.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s has been an uphill battle. There are days I’m like “is this even for me?” Or “would I ever make it?” I use to have a lot of self doubts and I was a victim of comparing myself to everyone else. But I am proud that I still have that fire inside to keep going. To know that I’m so close to where I need to be and nothing will stop me.

I moved from Nashville to LA a couple of years ago to pursue music. I didn’t know what to do or how to get started at first. I was also really shy and didn’t have the courage to sing in front of people. I took vocal lessons and put a couple covers out to get me comfortable with my sound and being in the studio. No matter what I was not going to give up. I kept going and putting in the work until I was ready to record my first song.

Lessons I have learned is be careful who you express yourself dreams to. A lot of people say they are rooting for us but could actually be the reason for our downfall.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I love about LA is that there is always something to do here. I absolutely love silver lake. It’s so beautiful to me and I love going to Ivanhoe Restaurant & Bar for some amazing brunch. Malibu has the best beach that I’ve seen so far. It’s peaceful and Malibu is just amazing. West Hollywood has some very cool bars to go grab a drink at. My favorite place is EP & LP because of the rooftop view. It’s an entire vibe and also perfect for a little date night. LA has a lot to offer and I love here so much. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be who I was without the support of my amazing family and friends. Without them, I don’t know how far I would be in my career. I also couldn’t do it without David Jé. He is my engineer, vocal coach, mentor, friend, and therapist. He has seen me grow from the start of my career until now. He pushes me to my full potential and I couldn’t thank him enough. To have a team that believes in your dreams and inspiration is very very important for indie artists. Last but not lease I have to thank God for giving me the strength to keep pursuing my dreams and also blessing me to meet people along the way to help shape me for my career.
