We had the good fortune of connecting with Frankie Park and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frankie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think those of us who’re creative are just born a little different. I always liked to color, draw, doodle more than other kids growing up. Looking back things like that are a real signal (but easily ignored). Once I realized I was a natural at writing and singing, the main struggle has been budget! So make sure to follow FRANKIE PARK on socials to help a girl out.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I released my debut track “Can’t Hang” last year- right when the pandemic hit. I put SO much work into creating this single, trying to make it perfect, that I think I lost my essence as a singer inside the production process. My Bachelor’s degree is in Journalism, so beginning to record in LA as a singer was the equivalent of grad school. I was a rookie in every sense and brought a lot of creative apprehension to the studio. Regardless of that, however, I found that the best producers can create a comfortable environment and still sense your meaning. I had to move on from two producers before approaching my second single. It’s so important to trust yourself, keep going, and not take scrapped projects personally. Realizing your own agency is key to making music you’re proud to release.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re in LA for the first time, you’re starting the day at Eggslut in Venice and then walking to the beach. From there, drinks at Waterfront are classic, but starting to get overrated and overly crowded. The Bungalow and Blue Plate in Santa Monica are my top spots. If they want to see the valley, I’d do Ventura Boulevard in Studio City and then a hike nearby. The Hollywood Hike and Runyon Canyon are overcrowded. Favorite bar in Hollywood is Mama Shelter- amazing rooftop view and killer drinks. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It wouldn’t have occurred to me to risk a career as an artist without the inspiration from my teachers in high school- particularly Theater and English. Carole Lehan and Walter Mattson believed in me, saw me, in a different way than even my family. As the female counterpart to an high-achieving twin brother, I’ve spent a lot of time feeling intellectually less. Guidance from these two mentors brought out my individuality through creative expression. That I deserve a seat at the table by using my voice. Through every hardship I’ve encountered, their investments in me are core to pushing forward. I can’t overstate their impact enough.
