We had the good fortune of connecting with Saeg Arts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saeg, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My transparency and authenticity is everything for my brand. I have never and will never hold anything back from anyone. I believe the only way we can become the greatest versions of ourselves is by sharing our truths with each other. I know many people who live in fear of who they are or have become embarrassed and secluded based on their preferences and lifestyle. My goal is to unravel the inner workings of what it means to be human in order to show that we are all the same at the core.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My dad is a real movie buff so I watched a ton of movies growing up. Eventually I started creating characters and developing my own stories in my head. I began to embody these different characters to adapt to the different environments I was exposed to as I moved every year of my life due to family displacements. My art is unique as it is a display of the many characters I adopted growing up. I incorporate many different styles into my art and every song, artwork, album, etc. is a story within a story.
My brand, SAEG, is a one-man band which encompasses four different artists: Saeg Arts, Saeg Free, Saeg Mind, Burn The Saeg. Each one has it’s own style, voice, social media, etc. yet they are all ran by me. Many artists have created alter egos or alternate personalities but these personas aren’t merely different sides of me, rather they are stories and a reflection of who I am as a whole. My goal is show the complexities of the human mind and challenge the stories we tell ourselves to become who we are.
I’m excited for the many projects on the way and continuing to develop these different stories over time. It has been extremely difficult to balance it all and carve out the time to create and market everything, but I have learned to take continuous small steps and have faith in the process. I suffer from MDD and, although it has been somewhat of a hinderance to my success, I have learned to use it to my advantage. During major depressive episodes, you tend to get really connected to the things you fear which has allowed to me overcome them and push through when things gets difficult.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite things in life are food and nature! The first place I would go to would be The Fix on Hyperion Ave, which has the BEST burgers in town. After that I would take them to my favorite beach, Point Dume in Malibu. It’s the best mixture of not too crowded and not too empty that I’ve found so far. Other than those and my go-to sushi spot, Rock N’ Roll Sushi (not to be confused with Rock N Sushi), I like to experience things for the first time with people rather than going to something I’m used to so the rest of the week would probably consist of random adventures. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My eighth grade English teacher is one of my biggest influences and probably the main reason I got into writing. She inspired me to read more which lead to my love for literature and making music/poetry. I’m not sure where I would be without her.
