We had the good fortune of connecting with Abraham Cobian-Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abraham, how do you think about risk?
Risks, to take them or not to take them? Taking risks can be terrifying, but I think never being willing to take risks is even scarier for your life than taking a risk and losing. In my life and career, I always think about the risks I’m about to take, what can go right, and what can go wrong. However, I realize that I will never truly know an outcome unless I go for it, so I do (for the most part). I learned relatively early in life that if something is in your mind and does not seem to go away, then you need to listen to whatever that is, and go for it. Risks are worth it—well informed risks at least. I am from a small town in the central valley of California. Moving to the Los Angeles area all alone was one of the biggest risks I have taken. I was 18 years old, very driven, but extremely nervous. I was ready to see what there was to offer and I had no idea the failures and successes that were to come. Had I not taken that risk, I would not have graduated college, I would have never worked with the family of Regional Mexican Music sensation, Jenni Rivera for 5 years, and I would not have moved forward and worked for a very well-known and established PR firm where I was able to learn from the best. All of this, thanks to a decision I made, to take the risk and see what happened. Last year, amid the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to take another huge risk and make a move I never thought I would make. Now, here I am living that very risk I have taken and am ready to see what great opportunities lie ahead! Life is full of choices, risk taking is a difficult one to make. But when and if you do, you open a world of possibilities you never thought were possible for your life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was born in the Bay Area but grew up in the small town of Los Banos, CA. I graduated from Pacheco High School and moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams. While I was a full-time college student, I landed a full-time job working for the family of the late regional Mexican music sensation, Jenni Rivera. This job opened many doors for me and gave me the experience I needed in order to grow and expand my skill set. I will forever be grateful for that job. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University Northridge, I began an internship at a public relations firm, De Waal & Associates where I was later hired as a publicist assistant. I became fascinated with public relations and decided that this was an area I wanted to dive into and learn as much as I possibly could. Now, I am ready to move forward to make my next move and am excited to see what is in store for me!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely start with a hike anywhere in the Los Angeles mountains, and then brunch at Barney’s Beanery in Burbank! We would hit up the coffee shops in the San Fernando Valley and then make our way to Long Beach on 2nd street for drinks at Joe’s! Dinner would absolutely have to be any ramen restaurant on Sawtelle and Olympic!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Two former co-workers of mine who have helped pave the way for my successes are Lino Quintana and Mariella Sagastume of Jenni Rivera Enterprises.
