We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexus Fay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexus Fay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create skin care products that were natural and beautiful and that worked while being affordable. I believe that taking care of our skin And having access to good products Is important, being sustainable & eco-friendly shouldn’t be expensive. When it came to jewelry I create, I wanted to make beautiful designs from materials that last long, but also were light weight. I wanted a expensive look & feel, all while making sure the jewelry was accessible. This same logic was also what made me create homegoods that were beautifully designed, functional, but didn’t cost too much. I want people to be able to access products that improve their lifestyle without breaking their budget.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am proud that my business is multi-service/ product based shop. I try to make my business a one stop shop for beauty, home goods, & jewelry shopping, a little bit of everything for your lifestyle. I started out with jewelry designs, which allowed me to work with different materials. Then I added skincare- since it was something near and dear to me- I love it as a part of my self care practice. And finally I began adding home goods to my shop, I’ve always loved interior design and wanted to bring my passion for it to life by creating pieces you can add to your home that brings life into a space.

Operating & funding my business is not easy at all ! There was a lot of nights that I barely or didn’t sleep to make sure I sent out packages on time. I would come home from work and work on my business. There is some months I had no revenue at all. I have gotten customer complaints and dealt with a lot of things that was new to me. I learn as I go. Every mistake or issue serves as a learning moment for me. I just remind myself to keep going because I have a vision for my business and what it will become. A lot of the time I’m motivating myself, learning how to improve my processes, and building confidence in myself & business.

Skiin & Tones is a apothecary, lifestyle & home goods brand that offers quality for less ! My goals is to expand each area of my business to include more gold/silver jewelry pieces, more versatile décor & furniture, and more skincare formulations aimed at treating more specific skincare issues. I want everyone to keep an eye on my brand and watch how it grows as time goes by !

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently moved to Long Beach, CA. Its about a 30min drive away from LA, so I’ll definitely be recommending the beaches. There’s a few plant nurseries in the area, so we would look at those. We could also stop by LA flower market. As far as food, I really can’t decide there’s so many places ! But in my top I’d definitely visit Salt & Straw, The Attic, & Simply Wholesome. Some of the most exciting places to be will definitely be the farmer’s markets, flea markets, & indie stores in the area. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my friends! Some of my first ever orders came from friends. My friends also reposting & shouting my business out. I want to shout out every creative photographer (spooky.world & thessark) that helped me shoot content. Every beautiful person that have modeled for me. My customers for supporting & materializing my dreams.
