Meet Stacey Stormo: Sustainability Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Stormo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start Stormo & Co. because I felt it was a good time for me to take a deep dive into sustainable business at-large. I had previously worked in sustainable fashion and felt limited by the confines of the industry. I felt compelled to do more, and when the opportunity presented itself for me to do so, I jumped right in!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m so proud of my company, Stormo & Co. Sustainability Design because it took me about a year to dream it all up and work hard to bring it to life. It is truly my brain child and is a labor of love. My approach to sustainability starts with my experience as a Strategic Designer. I earned my Master’s Degree from The New School in Strategic Design and Management. After completing the program, I decided to marry my two passions, design and sustainability, in an effort to find fresh and innovative approaches to sustainability. I utilize the design process to help businesses develop strategies that balance people, planet and profit.
In developing this business, I’ve learned that anyone within a company can effect change (not just the top of the hierarchy). It’s important to get as many people in your company on board with sustainability and innovation as possible in order to not only keep the momentum going, but also broaden your horizons on new ways to approach problems.
At Stormo & Co., we meet you where you’re at and help you design a path forward that works for you and your business. We don’t expect you to be an expert in sustainability, and we certainly don’t expect you to be perfect. We just expect you to be curious and willing to try things out until we find the right fit.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to visit, you can almost always find us at the beach! My favorite is Laguna Beach as it has a great artsy vibe and lots of wonderful boutiques. TIppy’s coffee shop is one of my favorite places to grab a latte before crossing the street to enjoy the beach.
I also love to take in a show at Pantages (when there isn’t a global pandemic going on) and then grab some food at Delphine or Hollywood Burger.
I’m also a huge pasta fan (and a general foodie at heart) so we’d of course make a trip to Eataly and/or Maccheroni Republic.
We’d also have to make a trip to LACMA where we’d spend hours musing over the amazing works of art (and also partaking in some delicious eats from their restaurant and AMAZING bar).
Finally, I’d have to drag her on a hike or two. Perhaps we’d venture to Santa Anita Canyon or check out the Bat Cave hike.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Much of my success came from the amazing mentors I’ve had throughout my professional career. My Career Advisor, Joan Ramstedt, really helped me figure out who I am in this business and what sets me apart from others in my field. I also took a course through GreenBiz and WholeWorks called Leading the Sustainability Transformation, that helped me build confidence and focus in my business. When I started the course I wasn’t sure what I had to offer as a sustainability professional, but after working with the amazing faculty and participants in the course I realized I have the ability to connect with others and truly make a difference.
