We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Wright Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The first vision happened while I was working as a Prop & Set Stylist in Atlanta, then the opportunity popped back up while I was working full-time for fashion designer Billy Reid. We had a project that required cutting paper with a blade and I ended up bringing home the leftover supplies to play around with, and he ended up commissioning work for his home.

Now I’m four years into doing this full time. Never thought that would happen in my wildest dreams, but “go with the flow”, right?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d never classify myself as a ‘perfectionist’, but when it comes to the quality of my work I definitely am. When I’m rushed in a project I don’t feel like the final piece is up to my standards. I’m proud of the amount of time I put into each piece. It’s kind of sacred to me.

Looking back on these four years since dedicating myself full time, it’s been a gradual build. I’m busy than I’ve ever been and am loving every minute. It’s forced me to become much more organized with my time (although I could always improve in that area). I wouldn’t say it’s been easy… but I’m very grateful for the ups and downs. It’s been a lot of learning experiences (especially with shipping and framing). There wouldn’t be any growth without them.

I have a lot of dreams for what RS could turn into, but nothing concrete to move forward on just yet. One idea is it becoming a constant artist collaboration (myself and them), creatine one-off pieces in a very limited quantities. Again… some much thought vomit at this point. But I want to let my work evolve at the right times.

I feel like my work speaks for itself most of the time… it’s not for everyone, but the people who do appreciate it? I’m very grateful for that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m local to the metro- Atlanta area so I guess it would go something like this…

Coffee at Brash

Visits to The High Museum, Highland Row Antiques (and other antique shops), and walk the Beltline

Skin Treatments at The Aviary

Happy Hour at 8Arm

Dinner and Drinks at Lyla Lila

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Billy Reid and my family and close friends that keep the creative winds under my wings. Thank you for the constant encouragement to keep going.
