We had the good fortune of connecting with Caleb Cornelius and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caleb, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business after I went through a major surgery and having cancer. I was following an herbal regimen and drinking alkaline water during my recovery and it really helped me bounce back. I wanted to pay it forward and teach others about what worked for me and got me through one of the hardest times of my life!
What should our readers know about your business?
Rune Apothecary + Kitchen offers herbal teas, healing adaptogen powders, herbal smoke blends, and other wellness products. What sets us apart from others is the formulation of our products. I wanted each product to be unique and memorable. Something that’s flavor or scent cannot be duplicated or replicated, while still offering potent plant medicines that give results! Getting where I am today took a lot of commitment and dedication to my craft. I’m still learning so much every step of the way which can feel overwhelming at times but I try to look at it through a positive lens and not compare my path to others.
I want to share with the world the powers of plants and how they can heal us. There are so many plants on our planet and they harness so much healing potential. I find it so fascinating how we work symbiotically with plants. We provide them carbon dioxide to photosynthesize and they produce an array of compounds we can use to heal ourselves. It’s so important to practice mindfulness and take care of our planet and every creature on it because we all work together to coexist!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This will be a long list because I love Southern California so much! I think we would definitely have to get a beach day in, maybe go kayaking in Marina Del Rey followed by rollerblading from Santa Monica to Venice, and then eat at Cafe Gratitude in Venice.
I would also want to take them to my favorite hiking spot, which would have to be Ernest E. Debs Regional Park. The Audubon society is located there and the birdwatching/wildlife is amazing there!
Another thing on the itinerary would be taking them to some of my favorite spots in the Mojave desert. I love going deep into the desert to camp. It feels so nice to escape the light pollution and look up and see every star in the night sky. It’s so magical and refreshing. Also camping in the Angeles National Forest!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my friends who own small businesses. I’ve always been inspired by seeing them do what they love every day and it definitely influenced me to make my passions into a career path.
