We had the good fortune of connecting with Genesis Morales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genesis, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite affirmations is “You are enough.”

I love the meaning it exudes and its simplicity. I would use it so often, share it with friends, clients, and colleagues that a dear friend wrote this affirmation in calligraphy, framed it, and gifted it to me. This affirmation reminds me of my innate power, the importance of showing up as myself, and assists me in remembering that I already have all the answers within myself; I just have to listen. It reinforces trust in myself and the practice of self-compassion when shame comes creeping in. This affirmation has guided me through many difficult times and continues to be a motivator in my life that I continue to share.

If it resonates with you, use it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I asked myself this question so many times when starting and building my practice Bloom Within Therapy. One of the things that set me apart is being a Grief & Loss specialist. Not many people are comfortable talking about death, and let me tell you, I am! The complexity of grief needs to be talked about more often. Because grief is not synonyms to death and we experience grief in our daily lives. Yes, I said it; we experience grief in our daily lives! I am also most proud of focusing my practice on decolonizing mental health. Moving away from labels such as diagnosing and instead focusing on connecting with our ancestral knowledge, inner-child healing, and helping clients see nothing is wrong with them. My holistic approach considers the mind, body, and spirit by assisting clients in connecting with their innate power, accepting their whole selves, and building self-compassion and radical self-love. I love seeing my clients bloom from within. Hence, my practice name being Bloom Within Therapy.
This journey has not been easy because it requires self-reflection, self-awareness, healing, and growth. Attending my own therapy helped me in my healing journey and the opening of my practice. My healing has guided my own work with decolonizing my mind, body, and spirit. It is a practice that I continue daily.
I have learned that by accepting people with compassion in all that they are, they also learn to embrace their whole selves. And how beautiful would it be if people embraced all of themselves and practiced compassion and kindness?
I want people to remember: There is nothing wrong with you. You are not broken. You are enough and so worthy of love and everything else you deserve!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooh, so many places come to mind! First, I would catch up with my friend over coffee and breakfast at The Village Bakery and Cafe or Habitat Coffee! Then, I would take my friend on a hike that leads to the Griffith Observatory to see the planetarium and catch the show Centered in the Universe! It is one of my favorites! After the show, I would love to take my friend on a walk through DTLA check out bars, art galleries, and do some dancing! Maybe end up on a rooftop enjoying the city night lights. At the end of the night, we would grab some tacos from King Taco and continue the adventure the rest of the week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love this question! I want to recognize my mother, siblings, partner, and best friend. My mother for her love, support, and kindness. A woman whose strength and resiliency I admire and look to for guidance. My siblings for inspiring me and always coming thru with laughter and lightness. My partner for his unconditional love, kindness, patience, encouragement, support, and for reminding me of my strengths. My best friend for her guidance, compassion, and mentorship as I opened my private practice and for believing in me even when I doubted myself. Your unconditional love helped to jump-start my healing journey. Words are not sufficient as I share immense gratitude for all the people that guide, love, and support me. My gratitude is endless. I am thankful for everyone in my life because it takes a village.
