Meet Lawyer Beaty: Bartender & CEO of DRINKS by InDisguise

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawyer Beaty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lawyer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started DRINKS by InDisguise, I only had one goal, and that was to create a way for people to feel good, including myself. I received my bartending license a week before the world shut down, due to  Covid-19. . Everything happened so fast. One thing, I was in Tucson, AZ trying to finish up my last semester, planning my graduating weekend. Next thing you know, I am packing up everything I had in Arizona and driving back home to Los Angeles, CA to finish school, remotely. . We were right in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and I became stressed due to being scared of the unknown and just wanted to feel good again. From personal experience, there are two things that make people feel good: 1. that feeling you get when you walk out of the barbershop or hair salon, and you know you look good. 2. going out with family and friends, drinking and eating. We weren’t able to do anything. One thing I know how to do is create an amazing cocktail. My finals were taken with a cocktail on the side and music in the background. I felt really good after submitting my finals. Most importantly, I knew it was time I take a risk and share my creativity with the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
DRINKS by InDisguise is a luxurious bartending company that specializes in ready-made cocktails. I personally do not like the taste of liquor. But, I love a good drink. People like their liquor, straight-up. However, I like my liquor to sneak up on me. I wanted to create cocktails that taste so good, you wouldn’t even know liquor was in them until you start to feel the liquor as the day continues. I get extremely excited when people receive their drinks and they instantly fall in love with both the packaging and the drinks themselves. I wanted to create an entire experience for My Drinkers, my customers, and not just sell them a drink in a bottle. Consumers fall in love with how something is presented to them, first, before they fall in love with anything else. I got to where I am today by believing in myself, my craft, and with the love and encouragement from my support system. Starting a business is not easy because you are going to have times of self-doubt. Constantly questioning yourself, is this the right thing to do? Will it be worth it? However, I reached out to my friend Tyaun, owner of Pink Almond, for advice. One thing she told me, that I will never forget is,” No matter what, do not give up. You are going to have good days, you are going to have bad days. Continue to believe in yourself, your craft, and do not give up.” Along the way, I have learned to not be afraid to take a risk, to not be afraid to get out of my comfort zone, and to have fun, no matter what. Additionally, I have learned the energy you put out into the world, especially in social settings, is the energy you will receive when starting a business. I want the world to know that I am a fun, loving, shy man from Los Angeles, CA. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I put my all into everything that I do. DRINKS by InDisguise is my baby. I cherish it. My brand is about making sure people feeling good and refreshed while sipping on a bottle of DRINKS by InDisguise. Whether you are at home or outside, out with friends and family or alone, eating and watching a movie on a Saturday night, or cleaning around the house on a Sunday morning. DRINKS by InDisguise is created to make you feel good, luxurious, and refreshed in every setting. As for me and my story, it is still being written and I welcome everyone on my journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, I have done this plenty of times. One thing about me and my friends, we love to eat, drink and have fun. The first thing we have to do is go to Roscoe’s. You cant come to Los Angeles, CA without going to Roscoes. But, you have to go to the Roscoes in Long Beach because that is the only location that has a bar. Chicken and Waffles with a Strawberry Hennessy Margarita, you can’t go wrong. Have to go to Bossa Nova on Sunset for some pasta and a sangria. Dulan’s if you want soul food because their mac n cheese is fire. When it comes to places to visit, you have to ask the guest what they want to see first. But, of course, they want to go to Hollywood and see the Hollywood Sign or go to Rodeo Drive. So, do what they want to do first and then show them the real deal afterward. Take them shopping at The Grove, Del Amo Mall, and The Beverly Center. It’s just so much to do. However, the most important thing is that my best friend is having fun and that you, as the host, create a nice and everlasting experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shoutout to my entire support system: my mom, my sister, my boyfriend, and my friends, who are more like family. They have supported me throughout my entire journey and without their love and support, I would not be the man I am today. My story is incomplete without mentioning, My Core. I truly believe, a strong support system helps build a strong individual.
