Meet Emily Coupe | Actor/singer songwriter/producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Coupe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic/creative career, because I don’t think anything else makes me feel as alive as creating art. It really fuels my soul, and is a real way of expressing yourself authentically, without overthinking it and trying to please anyone else (unless hired by someone to create at for a project). Also to me creativity is really spiritual, and when you really get in the zone, whether that is collaborating with someone else, or letting the ideas flow and come to you, then there is really no other feeling like it. I love the book ‘The Artist’s Way’ by Julia Cameron and ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert, and think that they both really sum up the creative process perfectly 🙂 The more I write and create etc, the easier and faster it becomes, as I get out of my own way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a multi-hyphenate kind of artist, specialising mainly in film/TV acting, singing songwriting, and film producing. If that counts as specializing, however I consider them all related. It’s funny, because until recently all of these fields were separate, however lately I have been producing films where I am acting in them, as well as singing and writing music for it. So it is all my loves and passions combined. Ultimately this is what I would like to do for the rest of my life, and want to continue to combine them all together 🙂

I am excited about releasing an upcoming music album, the release of a couple of new films coming out this year which I starred in called ‘Dark Haven’ and ‘The Crossroads’ (in which I both have producing credits), and am also working on producing multiple feature films myself through my production company ‘Couped Up Entertainment’.

I have learned a lot of lessons along the way, but some of the most important ones are; throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks, just say ‘yes’ to opportunities even if you don’t know if it’s right, patience is king, be nice to everyone, be authentic, have fun along the way, and quality over quantity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would for sure take them to Santa Monica pier, theatre shows, Downtown L.A, Huntington Beach, Korea Town, Beverly Hills, Echo Park, and to all of my favorite eating spots too. One of my favorite restaurants in L.A is Masa Of Echo Park 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shoutout to all of my amazing mentors along the way. I have had so many teachers over the years, from my acting/singing teachers, friends, family, and also mentors in the field I am in as well. I know that I would not be where I am today without them, and I love you all! 🙂
