We had the good fortune of connecting with Ancient Artery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ancient, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Well, for starters I think its only right to acknowledge the fact that I didn’t decide to work for myself. By dropping out of college, I did make the monumental decision to support myself without college being my crutch. My current work was assigned to me by God and aligned by the universe! When I decided to leave UCLA, I intended to find an accommodating job that would help me fund my holistic journey. In other words, I was looking for a job that would give me a chance to afford all the herbal supplements and products I was investing in for my health; however, finding a job wasn’t as easy as I thought. No matter how qualified I was, or how many interviews I’d excelled in, it wasn’t meant to be. I didn’t know at the time, until I was blessed to be able to work for myself that it was all apart of a much bigger plan. Moving forward, one of the most important decisions I made that contributed to my success, was my decision to love myself. I believe success has a varying meaning amongst different individuals, and sometimes when you’re rerouted in life, that meaning evolves along with you! Initially, my idea of success was graduating from a prestigious university like UCLA and going on to get a job that I was happy with. Although my past idea of success wasn’t complete without a degree in the picture, I knew that success always required happiness, and thats one thing that never changed about my definition. As God rerouted me in life and sent me down a path that would require me to focus on my healing, I began to concentrate more on the importance of making happiness the core meaning of success. Everyone wants to be successful, but success eventually makes more sense when you realize everyone wants to be happy! Sadly, many of us are scared to create our own happiness, we look to everyone and everything else to do it for us, and thats why many of us don’t consider ourselves to be successful yet. I was unknowingly one of those people, waiting for happiness to find me and scared to create it. Thankfully, I was nudged down this path that inspired me to start loving myself. I realized that once you begin focusing your light toward what makes you happy—for me that was finding new ways to heal—then success becomes you! It was through healing that I made the decision to show up for myself and quit waiting for somebody to create the changes I wanted to see in my life and in the world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself to be very passionate holistic healing enthusiast, meaning I go nuts over anything that has to do with healing the mind, body, and spirit! Being that healing is a major hot topic for me, I love applying my studies to myself, learning more and more about healing through my own experiences! As I learn, I become more knowledgable of the things that can help people overcome the same health obstacles I stumbled over for years on end. Aside from creating visual holistic health content for my social media community, my extensive creativity exists in the way I create opportunities for my community to learn and heal. Understanding that I too come from a past of ignorant-driven dieting and health beliefs, I always create my health content with this in mind because I speak to my audience the way I would’ve wished someone spoke to me when I was younger and clueless! With my holistic health content I expose the many ways we can incorporate healing and detoxing into our lifestyles to have a bigger impact with small changes such as smoothies for breakfast, raw salads or grain bowls for dinner, and cleansing monthly. As a holistic health product distributor I sell cleanses that detox waste from the body; however, I hardly perceive myself as such, but more so as a creator of an opportunity to heal and restore the health of my people!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite adventures to go on, is hunting for new restaurants that can accommodate my plant-based alkaline lifestyle! This is both fun and interesting to me because it presents a challenge, being that most restaurants don’t even serve a salad thats not drowned in dressing and bacon bits. My dietary choices, being that I don’t eat meat/dairy, hybrid fruits, veggies, nuts, or grains, drink alcohol, consume anything canned or microwaved, may sound restricting to some, but its super abundant to me! When I’m not on the lookout for a new spot to try, I can always count on Simply Salad to offer me a great customized salad that I can make alkaline based on my preferred ingredients! Sweetgreen—similar to Simply Salad—is also a great restaurant that allows you to create your own yummy salad! They’re both really appetizing and fun to experience but one of my absolute favorite food spots to be blessed by is an alkaline vegan pop-up restaurant known as Vegan or Nah Life—established by Eboney and Daryl. This Black-owned business supports the alkaline vegan diet and creates food to cater to our needs, for example their alkaline “chickun and waffle” slider is to die for! I’ve traveled miles to experience their awesome food and I never regret it!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being that I consider success to be rooted in happiness and love, I believe the people who deserve recognition in my story are none other than those that made me happy, offering me the unconditional love and support that got me to where I am today. Gratefully, I was born into this life with the most supportive family. It was all the love that my mother never failed to give, the daringness that my father instilled into me, the toughness inherited from my grandma, and the warmth that my siblings provided that built me. I’m very big on foundation, I believe if the foundation is strong and stable, the building will stand for as long as its meant to. I couldn’t have made it this far if I wasn’t offered the reassuring trust of my mother and my decisions weren’t so heavily supported by my family overall! Aside from my bloodline, the support received from my partner guided me through a very monumental transitioning stage in my life. The changes I made in order to heal required a lot of strength, discipline, and willpower. Although drastic and sudden, these changes inspired my partner to change along with me for the betterment of not only me, but the health of our relationship. All of these angels keep me uplifted and inspired till this day, and I wouldn’t be as humbled today without them!
