We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Reece and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hunter, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work / Life balance. This one has been tough for me, and still is. It’s hard to silence that voice in my head. All I hear is “Grind, Hustle, Work Harder!” in my brain’s best Gary V impression. The thoughts of falling behind because someone else is working at the exact moment that I am enjoying sunshine at the beach is deafening. I spread the gospel of taking time off to relax and rest, but I don’t always practice what I preach. This all comes from a place of scarcity. Fear of a zero sum, if I am not using it then someone is taking it from me. Instead, have faith in yourself. Trust that your best work is ahead of you, and nothing or nobody can change that.

There are literally studies that prove time off and relaxation lead to higher levels of productivity.

So I say this to you as much as myself, take time off. Go outside, soak up the sunshine, throw a ball around, take in the beauty of the green world around us.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My audience of listeners is made possible by treating them like people. Nobody is a number, nobody is a sale, nobody is a statistic. If you appreciate the time and energy that each and every customer/listener/friend gives you, they will reciprocate it ten-fold. Build your brand one at a time. Large big jumps are sexy, and yet so unsustainable. Giving the attention to your audience is how you create a brand with longevity. Focus on your craft, on your passion, and let the product speak for itself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sorry for being brief- Chinchikurin in Japantown off of Sawtelle. I one hundred percent take everyone who visits to this spot. It is a gem in the city whipping out the best okonomiyaki in the western hemisphere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Will Guild, williamguild98@gmail.com

Will is a legend in the making. His guitar skill is matched only by his kindness as a human being. Anytime I need a shred, a riff, or just a drink with a friend. He is a collaborator I respect and trust completely.
