We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Lim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking, it’s the only way to live. Is it? Taking risks in my own personal life, and career is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. I realize as I get older risk is something I am more concerned and fearful of, but I realize doing what you think the world has set as secure and stable lifestyle is just a false sense of security. No matter what happens to my career I realize it will all work out eventually. What’s the worst that could happen, fail? I would rather fail at something I love than something I think I should be doing. Although my career is just beginning, I accept all challenges and fall forward in this journey.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Right now I am most interested in producing portraits and figurative work that is meaningful to me with personal narratives of how I view the world. It’s a fulfilling chase having the opportunity to learn and create work that can come to life and have an essence of humanity and my experience. Work hard, don’t look back and jump in with honest humility. I believe there is something you can learn from every experience whether objectively it seems like a good or bad one; there is something that can always propel you forward and prepare you better for what the future has is in store for you. Just like everyone I’m in the midst of this battle we call life, I want others to know it’s hard out here and we all gotta start from somewhere, let’s embrace our journey and just go for it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably go get some Korean food! Hit up Sawtelle, and go to Daiso.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my mom, she’s a Pianist, Composer and has been teaching music for over 30 years. Her passion and positivity shines through her teachings and has always been supportive of my involvement in the arts. She has shown me what it looks like to dedicate your enthusiasm to a craft and to always pursue what’s in your heart. As time goes on we tend to think it’s time to stop learning; but she has shown me that it is truly never too late to pick up something new, life’s too short for that.
