We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaneka Heard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaneka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind my business was to jump into something I can never get tired of. I wanted to have something I can give to my daughter if she wanted to take over in the future. I truly enjoy makeup and nails and every time I do someones face or a set it’s fun to me! Everyone says if you do something love you will never work a day in your life. I feel that is true. Often times you find a job that you like but after a while it takes a toll on you mentally and monopolizes your time, you then grow to dislike it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Makeup Artist and a Licensed Nail Technician. I feel what sets me apart from others is that I love to educate my clients while providing them services. I am most proud of the elevation this year. I have been doing makeup for 5 years and it felt like I was stagnant for a while. I am a mother so I put my kids first so that I can be there for their milestones and be as present as possible and with that my business was put on hold. I started nails and it just renewed something in me. My youngest is on her way to school so what better way to push my agenda than now. This was not easy for me, I wanted my business to thrive so much that I didn’t feel as if I achieved anything while everyone around me was thriving. I overcame that feeling by just realizing my time will come when god says so. I just took whatever classes I could and really improved my skills so my time didn’t go to waste while I was waiting my turn. I know this may sound cliche but I learned that patience is a virtue, you may want something right now but didn’t realize you weren’t ready to handle it. I would like to world to know that I am a dedicated mother and wife but I am still achieving what I want. My brand is real, it is authentic and I have put a lot of love and time in creating it and when you use my services you will see that through my work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well my best friend and I LOVE to eat so we would find our favorite place to get food or try something new together. My best friend is a free spirit so she more so gets me to explore new things. There is no itinerary with her she likes to wing it lol. If we took a long trip we would definitely find seafood, pasta, Mexican food and pizza!! She would want to do an excursion that will probably freak me out, we would find a beach or just a nice spot to relax.
