We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanai & Wesley Holder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanai & Wesley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks and major leaps of faith have been consistent themes throughout our entire lives. Although it was very uncomfortable and not something we welcomed in the past we now embrace it knowing that the growth we will experience will always lead us to something bigger and better than we have ever experienced before. Each of these experiences has also lead us to the next life-changing moments from selling all of our belongings and traveling the world to moving to California with little notice and eventually starting a business. Prior to each leap, we had no idea what the future would hold but it allowed us for the opportunity to embrace faith in order to experience the life of our dreams.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Salt Lounge is a wellness space in Long Beach, Ca. It provides those in the community the opportunity to experience wellness and spiritual services in a new way. It is our mission to make these services fun, welcoming, and accessible to those in search of nourishment of the mind, body, and spirit. We are proud to be a black-owned wellness space as this was not something we had the opportunity to experience along our personal journeys. When starting, we were a little self-conscious of how we would be received doing things in a new way but we knew we had to follow our hearts. It wasn’t easy at first. We put literal blood, sweat, and tears into building our business from the ground up. In the end, we wouldn’t change a thing because you can feel the love when you walk into the space and with each interaction. We have the privilege of inviting others to feel empowered and take control of their lives and shift their personal narratives to whatever they would like it to be no matter where they started.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are all about a vibe and love showing our friends from out of town a good time. We would start by taking our pals to an R&Brunch hosted by Urban Society here in Long Beach. We would then take them to Shoreline Village where they would have the opportunity to relax, grab a treat, or do some shopping. To get them acclimated and into their bodies, we would definitely hit Yoga on the Bluff followed by a farmers market in Downtown LBC. We are big foodies so we would go to our favorite Prime by Shenandoah along with all the great places along with Pine st.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our friends and family are our biggest supporters and we wouldn’t be anywhere without them. We can admit we have had some wacky ideas and visions they may not have understood. However, they always support and believe in us no matter what. With each endeavor, they have encouraged us to shine our light and to be the change we want to see in the world. We recognize and appreciate the powerful team behind us because that’s not something entrepreneurs always get the opportunity to experience.
