Meet Widson Charlemont | Designer, Model and Multimedia Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Widson Charlemont and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Widson, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I moved to Los Angeles in 2017 after basically starting my life over. I had a part time job working overnight at a grocery store and also did some modeling and media work on the side. As time went on, I was able to pursue more creative routes and stopped working at the grocery store. Starting off with small, local gigs I worked my way up to being a part of some of the biggest productions and brands in the country. My thought process behind starting my own business was to create a platform that I could call my own and control to benefit not only myself, but others. The Covid-19 pandemic came around and that brought all of my opportunities to a stop. I’ve always been into fashion and after working with these brands, I was able to get a behind the scenes look into how things operated. I took all of my extra time and money and invested it into starting my brand, Crumbs To Crowns. The brand name comes from my personal life journey. Regardless of my circumstances, I’ve always found a way to create great opportunities with not as many resources as my peers. Which is why as my brand continues to grow, larger proceeds of profits will be used to help communities in Haiti, Florida and Los Angeles. It may not have always appeared that way but I definitely always had to do a little more just to keep up. It’s something that I’ve been used to since childhood. My parents did everything they could to provide the best life possible for my siblings and but one thing that I always strived for was financial freedom and stability for my family. My parents moved to the United States from Haiti and made the best life possible for us. Because of their courage, I was able to move across the country to pursue my dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I truly find freedom in being able to release my creativity. My brand represents starting with very few resources and still accomplishing everything you set out to do. What sets me apart from others is my route. I’m not the only person to ever do any of the things that I’m doing. But my route is a one of one and that’s where I find my inspiration. People often find themselves comparing themselves to their peers. I look at my peers and realize that no one is doing it the way that I do it. And that’s what sets me apart. I’m most proud of the progress that I’ve been continuously making. It’s a blessing. It wasn’t an easy route at all. A lot of people don’t even know that I drove 36 hours from my hometown with my car full of everything that could fit. I had to leave my family, friends and pretty much everything I know just to pursue better opportunities in fashion, music and media. I was dealing with depression after the death of my father and not being able to find a job in the media field after my college graduation. I promised myself to continue to putting my best foot forward in all aspects of my life and slowly everything started coming together for me. I learned so many lessons and I continue to learn more throughout my journey. One lesson that sticks out is to never compare yourself to anyone else because what God has for you is really made just for you. My faith strengthened for sure. I had to let things come to me instead of trying to control every success and failure. I want the world to know that Crumbs To Crowns will be one of the biggest brands in the world and I am excited to share it with everyone. I’ve done a lot for myself and others and I plan on doing even more. This is just the beginning.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since Covid, I haven’t been to many places. But here are some spots that I enjoy:

The Grove, for food, entertainment, and shopping.
Javier’s, for a nice dinner and drinks.
Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, for breakfast.
Dulan’s, for a soulfood lunch
Harold & Belles, for a great lunch.
Runyon Canyon, for a hike.
L.A. Live, to catch a happy hour at YardHouse and be tourists around the Staples Center.
Culver City Stairs, for a workout.
Hollywood Blvd, to sightsee the stars and get ice cream at Afters Ice Cream to cool down
Santa Moica Pier, for an outdoor day and to see the water.
Venice Beach, for a beach day.
Fashion District, to see different types of clothing and accessories.
The Malls, various shopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out God. Without God, none of this is possible. Shoutout to my family and close friends for keeping me uplifted with their love and encouragement from the other side of the country throughout my journey. I’m appreciative of anyone who has supported me or my brand in any kind of way, I greatly appreciate it. Rest in Peace to my father, Wilson Charlemont! Also, a huge salute to anybody that is out there doing whatever they can to make their dreams a reality. Major love to my hometown Winter Haven, Florida. (Polk County) and Florida A&M University for all of the amazing people that I met there.
