We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create a lip balm collection that last a long time with moisture, doesn’t dry out your skin or even leave that nasty white residue around your lips

I’m one of those who always buy lip balms & get tired of my lips drying out so fast or crackling a lot or leaving white residue around them!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently a nursing student finishing off my bachelors in science of nursing at Sacramento state university, I live with sickle cell anemia so being in the hospital all my life growing up was all I knew and I wanted to also help people who lived with rare blood disorders or diseases and be the care they require because I know what they suffer and go through.
Growing up wasn’t easy always in & out the hospital not always able to enjoy being outside or doing fun activities and certain sports.

I overcame so much just living with sickle cell, I was always told I couldn’t do certain things I wasn’t able to play football like I wanted, I was told I wasn’t going to make it past the age of 7 and then 13, and now I’m 26 years old.

So I invested my time into something that I would like and others would like as well so I can have something that makes me happy and. Something that I can do to bring people around.

I use to be the social outcast, I use to get sick a lot I couldn’t be out late, my body would randomly hurt. I missed a lot of great things growing up and I also lost a lot of friends on the way.

So when I created lip balm I felt like I was telling multiple stories because every lip balm resembles a certain color and flavor.
These flavors were inspired by things that made me happy when I was finally able to travel and see the world do things I was told I wasn’t able to do when I was younger, they represent a part of time in my life I was going through something and this one smell Of a certain flavor would make me remember what events happened during this time and what I did to overcome it.

My brand represents me creating happiness that I always wanted growing up.
I was depressed a lot and sad and I found something that made me happy and I was able to share my joy through that with others

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

One thing people can always do is to travel, see the world while you are young and still able to move your body freely without repercussions!
