We had the good fortune of connecting with James Barmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic or creative career, because it was birthed out of a place of survival from a young age. It was the one thing that held me in those dark spaces growing up, and to keep going and transmuting those feelings, emotions, and thoughts into art. I’ve done it for as long as I can remember. I wanted to prove to others that I could be successful in something that didn’t require an immediate education or college. My artists gifts are just that, gifts; they are something that comes very natural to me. I’ve lived many lifetimes perfecting this craft and art that resides within me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My Art as I’ve stated before has come from a place of survival, a means of life and overcoming suicidal thoughts. Depression runs deeply through generations in my family as well as it being a common challenge across the world. So my art is dedicated to the self-healing and transformation of myself as an artist, in addition to seeing myself as a bridge to the world and those that see, or hear me or my art to connect back to themselves. What I get most excited about is my next moment of realization or inspiration that’ll take place in my life.

As I live my story in real time, I create those moments in real time just the same, I think it’s what sets me apart from others, in choosing to always story tell from a real introspective space but not so deep to where it’s not digestible. I’ve been fortunate to have some great experiences while navigating the entertainment industry for the several years I have lived in California. I’ve been able to work with the likes of Usher, John Legend, Jason McGee, Snoop Dogg, Chance The Rapper to name a few. Despite the name dropping I’m always learning more and more each day, remaining a student ensures my path of progress.
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that there will never be a moment of peaking where you can rest and stop and not have to worry about growing or working through things in your life. But that’s the beauty of life and for me the beauty of creating art from the journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So funny things about this section is that I’m the introvert in the friendship, so I don’t go anywhere or do too much of anything. It would be my friends taking me to places. Since I am such the artsy guy though, I’d imagine going somewhere like the Broad museum in DTLA or for a little bit of leisure and nature I’ve loved visiting the Malibu wine gardens for a hike in the vineyard, with a complimentary bottle at the end, I mean quite the consolation for the task right? But given the pandemic we travel lightly and safely of course.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have honestly been so many different people that have come into my life since starting this career and path of art. They’ve all imparted something into me or helped me grow in some form or fashion. From my grade school teachers, to my church, to industry colleagues that have become both friends and family. Current credit on my artist path goes to my future husband, with his love and support for me and vice versa I feel like I can do anything.
