We had the good fortune of connecting with Martini La’Rossi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martini, how do you think about risk?
I have always been a risk-taker. Taking risks is a natural part of who I am. I am more afraid of not taking the risk than doing so and learning a lesson if it doesn’t pan out. Being spontaneous and taking risks(sometimes calculated, sometimes not) has played a massive role in my life, from joining the military to following my purpose and not my pocket. Very rarely have I come to regret a decision, no matter the outcome. I’ve traveled, held positions in a variety of career paths, and met beautiful people along the way.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve never really sought out a career path per se. I am more of a Jill of All Trades. I’ve always followed my heart and never really felt the need to do so. Currently, I am working for a non-profit organization whose focus is to assist and empower those living below the poverty line to obtain and maintain employment and housing, which I enjoy very much. My adaptability, willingness, and ability to learn rather quickly, coupled with my usually never scared personality, tend to set me apart. I arrived at where I am today really out of sheer determination and grit. It isn’t, nor has it been easy or without bumps in the road but, it has been one beautiful journey. The lessons that I’ve learned along the way are to trust yourself, remain flexible, and enjoy the ride. Mawamo Candle Co. is a brand that focuses on your overall wellbeing and that we are more than just a home fragrance company.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, this is tough. We would definitely wing it unless the bestie has something in particular that she would like to do. Nonetheless, the week would be filled with good seafood, day parties, and constant laughter.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For starters, my rainbow baby, my love, my daughter Maya and my angel baby Anye’ who are the inspiration for Mawamo. I would also like to give a shoutout to my soul tribe sister Bre of Bruin Hues apparel and event rentals for all of her unwavering support, encouragement, and for truly believing in my vision. Secondly, Makala of Sanctuaire Textiles has been a great support and inspiration. Last but one of my greatest influences by far would be my Great-Grandmother Johnnie Lee Mitchell, her drive and entrepreneurial spirit taught me so many lessons that I keep at the forefront of my mind and in my heart.
