We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisabeth Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisabeth, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Like many, I was naturally risk averse, staying safe and looking for a way to contribute to my employer. But in 2015 I found CBD after a 2014 bicycle accident, and as I began healing I knew I needed to help others. I researched how the cannabis plant can modulate our body back to homeostasis or balance, and studied how to use all of these novel products to our gain. The passion I developed as I created my company Holistic Caring ignited my true purpose – and that led me to accept risks. Fast forward 6 years, I have created patient care services through a host of nurse coaches. I have written a book; Cannabis for Health: Become a Coach, and that led me to create professional programs that teach others to bridge the gap between conventional and cannabis medicine. Those programs are hosted on a platform that now has over 500 members interacting with each other in a safe, private network that promotes learning and success in this new industry.
The near future will unfold our ecosystem; process to train providers that gets vetted products to patients through programs. We are bridging that gap for patients and professionals to overcome stigma and introduce an option that offers root cause healing, for the patient and our healthcare system. Our mission and purpose allowed me to become a risk take with faith!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my career in 1986 as a Registered Nurse (BS in Nursing, BA in Psychology) in 1986, but knew I was not cut out to remain in hospitals. In 1996 I finished my MBA in Healthcare Administration and spent the next 2 decades in Insurance companies. That became dissatisfying when I implemented the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and I saw healthcare become about money and regulation rather than the art of medicine. I knew I wanted to make a difference and then I found CBD. Now, the lens I view this industry from is a ‘integrated delivery system’ with the potential to change the paradigm of healthcare. Because I have been an RN for 35 years and am a systems thinker, I see what I am creating as a solution to chronic conditions that conventional care cannot treat. Once I understood the Endocannabinoid system, I knew we were on to something special.
Today we are connecting well trained professionals with patients with unmet needs. Together we help those with cancer, chronic pain and opiate dependence, autoimmune and neurological issues, and mental health conditions. We add holistic health promotion from functional medicine playbooks and aim to help people live their best lives yet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m in San Diego so most of the time we start either at the Beach or the Park. The Ocean Beach Pier is a beautiful walk with salt air and people watching galore. Walking the pier gives you a sense of awe from the ocean, revealing surfers and sea lions! Balboa Park is the Crown Jewel of San Diego with museums, restaurants, the Zoo, and oodles of grand trees and beauty.
From there I love to ride the Trolley and take those famous red cars to various stops throughout the Gaslamp District to bar hop and take in more adventure, nightlife, restaurants and shopping. That is a perfect San Diego day!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This journey has featured many – but my 2 greatest shoutouts belong to Tasha Jackson, my VP of Programs, and Sherri Tutkus, my VP of Nursing. These 2 fine ladies steady my course and practically finish my sentences. I serve as the Treasurer of the American Cannabis Nurses Association and I want to thank my peers who inspire my path. LANORML members who serve on that Board with me, including Ian Rassman, our Deputy Director, and Chris Boudreau who chairs the California Cannabis Chamber of Commerce. All of these fine leaders have helped me become a better me.
