We had the good fortune of connecting with Alena Saz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alena, what inspires you?
Inspiration is everywhere! Nature is a great source of inspiring energy, but also all kinds of art from classic architecture to modern murals, food, traveling. People inspire me a lot as well. Sometimes I get inspiration during meditations or in my dreams. Life is full of inspiring concepts and it’s all about being open to seeing them in everyday things around you!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got into the fashion and beauty industry when I was modeling back in the days. Photography was the most mysterious part of it. I was thinking it was for real artists only, yet I learned the basics being in from of the camera while other people were creating their art.
It took me a while to step over my own fears and to start experimenting with the camera. I was trying to prove that models and women, in general, could take good pictures. Maybe I’m still trying to prove it – mostly to myself!
However, modeling definitely helped me in so many ways. I was always passionate about art and I got my master’s degree in Art History. I guess it helped me to find my style as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I believe that LA is a magical place and I have to admit that it treats me really well! The diversity of the city is fantastic and every neighborhood has its unique vibe. I can’t choose between Silverlake and Downtown, West Hollywood and Venice. And it always feels like there’s so much more to explore!
I remember visiting LA before I moved here and I spent most of my time in WeHo and Hollywood. Still love these neighborhoods but LA is so much more than that!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to Helmut Newton whose art awaked my passion for fashion photography.
