We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittanie Skye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittanie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always thought outside of the box. When I was younger I couldn’t appreciate that ability nor did I understand it. I just thought, “people just don’t understand me.” Or “I don’t fit in.” But as I grew to understand that I was meant to be “different”, I learned to embrace what I then realized was my creativity. I saw the world differently than most people. I had a way of always seeing the beauty in everything. So I knew that whatever I did in life it would have to be something that allowed my creativity to flow freely.Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hi I’m Brittanie Skye. I’m the owner and operator of Elevate salon. Elevate is a luxury salon that offers an array of beauty services with a relaxing and professional environment.

I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 17 years. I have always had a passion for the beauty industry and I always knew that I wanted to be in the industry in some capacity. I have worked as both a booth rental and commission stylist. In all the salons I’ve worked in, I gained some great experience as well as learned some valuable lessons of what not to do in my own business. I took those things and curated a unique customer experience. Our clients all love the quiet atmosphere and top notch customer service we provide.
Now this hasn’t been an easy ride at all. Working with women from all walks of life with many different personalities can present a certain level of challenges at times. Through it all learned countless things and hit a few bumps in the road along the way. I’ve wanted to quit millions of times but I know that the service I provide to my clients is a part of my purpose in life. I was gifted the talent to make women feel and look like the best versions of themselves. Knowing that I have the ability to do that, is what keeps me going.

If there was anything I would like for the world to know about my brand is that I have and will always lead with integrity, professionalism, and a kind heart. And that is what I believe has and will be the thing that sets me apart. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough question because A) I’m such a homebody in my downtime so I rarely go anywhere. And B) St. Louis is full of so many great things that I’m not sure a week is long enough to see them all. However i do my best to create an ideal itinerary.

On our first day I would take my friend to hit up one of my favorite breakfast spots Blondies. They have some of the best waffles I’ve ever tasted in my life! After breakfast and since we’re in the neighborhood, it’s only right that we stop by my salon Elevate (shameless plug) to get her all glammed up for her week ahead. After my staff and I give her the full beauty experience, we’ll head to the Delmar loop where we can do some shopping, check out some art, and get some great food from one of the many restaurants such as Prime 55 or Bait. After grabbing dinner we can head over to the moonrise hotel and have a few drinks at their rooftop bar. Throughout the rest of the week we will visit countless other homegrown restaurants and eateries because my friends and I are definitely foodies. Lol. At some point we will visit Union Station to take a ride on the Ferris wheel, visit the aquarium with the kids, and grab ice cream at the soda fountain. And of course because St. Louis is a baseball town, it’s a must that we hit up Ballpark village across from Busch stadium. The bars and food inside are all amazing! Depending on the time of the year, we would absolutely have to stick around to catch a Cardinals game! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s so many people that deserve recognition for helping to make my career what it is. My village of amazing family and friends who support every crazy idea, last minute schedule change, and every other thing that has helped to keep my career what it is today.

I am especially grateful for the love of my Fiancé Will, and our boys Zion and Zane. They motivate me everyday to push closer to greatness.
