We had the good fortune of connecting with Quantum Spin Studios and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quantum Spin Studios, how do you think about risk?
Risk is important. It is one of the most undervalued things that people don’t often think about. We are all constantly taking risks, whether personal or professional, but because we’re not mindful, we live under the false assumption that there’s zero risk involved in what we are doing right now. Similarly, when we compare what we have versus what we don’t have, we think the status quo is the best path rather than assessing how taking a new risk might better our chances at achieving our goals.
The unfortunate truth is that most people are unreasonably risk averse. Even the smallest of risks can seem scary if we haven’t weighed it holistically. For example, our creative start-up is risky, but the rewards far outweigh the risks.
In our business, when we think about risk, we immediately think about what we could lose and what we could gain. Measuring each new opportunity with the true pros and cons against how we may be doing things now is the only way to avoid ruts or antiquated thinking. We are also smart about mitigating against worst-case scenarios (and we never bet the farm). When we’re going to dive into the deep end of the pool we may not know exactly where we’ll land, but we should know exactly what our way out is should it become necessary.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Collectively, we bring experience across several different disciplines from filmmaking to tech to design to communications. Hailing from all different backgrounds, the three of us might seem to have formed an unlikely partnership. What unites us is our shared value system for how to create stories that inspire critical discussion and social change. This principle undergirds our process of world building and character development. To that end, we intentionally elevate women, people with disabilities, people of color, and LGBTQIA people behind and in front of the camera.
As the well-known proverb states, “necessity is the mother of invention”, and that’s certainly been true for us as we’ve been working to build a new company in the midst of a global pandemic. Circumstances have challenged us to be especially creative in our thinking and approach to how we run our business. QSS is only a year old, so we feel our journey has just begun, but we’re fortunate to have a few big projects in the works which we can’t yet talk about publicly. And we’re extremely proud of our work on Marvel’s ‘Wanda Vision’ and ‘Loki’, and our partnership with Good Mythical Morning and others. We hope you’ll keep an eye out for what Quantum Spin Studios does next.
