Meet Alexis Butler | Planner enthusiast & Woman’s advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Since I began grade school I have always been a planner, with a very busy schedule. I played several sports as a kid and always had plenty of homework. When I got to high school my schedule got even busier when I added a part time job to my schedule. Once I finally graduated and began college at Alabama State University on an academic scholarship I was pretty confused on what to do with all of the free time that I had. So, I started filling my time with a bunch of meaningless activities, joining organizations and overall just making myself busy. My planner was always filled with something. But, one day as I was lying in my dorm I started to reflect and realized I had been doing so much and had nothing to show for it. That made me extremely uncomfortable, knowing that I had wasted so much time, time that I couldn’t get back. In that moment, I decided that everything that I was going to do from that point forward was going to have a purpose and I was going to be serious about my intentions. But, how? I needed something to hold me accountable in doing that. I decided the right planner would help me, So, that’s what I began working on. Creating my own planner. During that process I figured there were probably 100’s of women just like me. Women who are busy, but not productive and if this planner could work for me, it could work for anybody. So, I took the leap.

What should our readers know about your business?
With Purpose is more than just a planner. It’s about helping women get to the next level and becoming the best version of themselves when they feel stuck. With Purpose creates community while offering workshops and scholarships to help women create a plan for themselves and be held accountable. In August of 2021 I awarded 3 young ladies a $1000.00 scholarship to go toward their college expenses. It’s a community driven scholarship, where different people of the With Purpose community donate to help reach the goal. I set it up this way so that the girls know that this money is from a group of people who actually believe in them and want to see them succeed. This road has not always been easy. From over priced paper to stolen products, I feel like I’ve been though a lot to get to where I am today in just 4 short years. I never imagined that With Purpose would be where it is, now. But, I am so grateful for the love and support I have gained throughout this process. One of my greatest lessons that I’ve learned may sound cliché, but it’s honest. “Just keep going!” There have been so many times that I wanted to quit and I felt discouraged, but then I’m reminded that With Purpose has actually helped someone and is helping more people, and that’s all I could ever want.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite thing to do in the city is act like a tourist. If I had a friend visiting we would definitely get lunch and dinner at Prince’s hot chicken and Slim and Huskey’s Pizzeria. We’d also grab brunch at my favorite spot, Tavern. In between time we’d go to fifth and Broadway in downtown Nashville and visit the ole smoky moonshine distillery. This is what I call a good day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my grandma and mom. My grandma was a huge push for With Purpose. I remember sitting in her kitchen and just going on and on and on about my idea and she stopped me mid sentence and said “Either you’re going to do it or not!” I knew then that I had gotten way ahead of myself with just an idea and hadn’t made any effort to actually getting it done. She was also the first person to invest in my vision. My mom has been a continued support. From the moment I mentioned the idea she has been behind me 100% every step of the way.
