We had the good fortune of connecting with Nomad Mr. Murk City and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nomad Mr., is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would have to say dedication is the most important factor to me. I always felt that if you’re truly dedicated to something then you won’t let anything stop you from achieving that goal. When I first started out on my journey I saw a lot of talented people stop and give up. But the ones who were dedicated were the ones succeeding, so I had to move and act accordingly if I wanted to be successful. Life will throw you curve balls which may result in setbacks, your patience, sanity and faith will often be tested. There’s no road map to being a success, and everyone’s path is different. However, if you have a vision and a goal for yourself then you need to make up in your mind that nothing is going to stop you from achieving it. Then wake up everyday with the mindset that nothing is going to stop me not even myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The music I make comes from a very real place. My music is a reflection of my life experiences. My music has been described as a gumbo of “Dirty South Trap, with East and West Coast ascendancy…full of grandiloquence, deep metaphors and provocativeness.” I like to paint pictures with my words so you can see what I’m saying in a sense. Music for me has always been more of a form of therapy. I copped with depression for a long time and music helped me deal with my issues and focus my energies into something positive. What separates me from most artists would have to be the fact that I”m self made. I’ve always been the type of person to stand on my own and not need a crew to validate me. I live by a code most people can’t comprehend. Growing up in South Carolina you have to be everything you say you are because your word is your bond. And if not, people will call you out on it. Respect is everything with me. I give respect first always because I demand it.

Being a artist and CEO is hard work. I don’t have the luxury of just being able to focus solely on music because I have to be hands on with the business side of music. Truth be told, it gives me an advantage over most artists because I know the business which gives me additional leverage. What I’ve learned over the years is that this is a business and if you don’t handle your business you will get consumed by it. The music business is 90% business 10% talent.

The world will come to know that I’m one of the hottest artists in the game period, hands down. I don’t like or need to brag, I let my work speak for itself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my homie was in town for the week we’d definitely hit up Clyde’s in Chinatown for dinner, then bar hop on U St NW by Howard University for drinks. That’s just the pregame before hitting up Bliss Nightclub and Stadium Nightclub in NE. There’s so much to do here in DC, it just depends on what kind of vibe you’re looking for we have everything.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I want to give all glory and praise to the Most High GOD for blessing me with these skills and abilities, my Mother & Father for being excellent parents and role models, my Grandparents for surviving and overcoming all that they endured so I could be here today, my aunts and uncles for being geniune and helping guide me, my cousins for always having each other’s backs whether right or wrong, my sisters and brothers for giving me a reason to strive to be the best version of myself that I can be, my nieces and nephews for giving me a renewed sense of purpose in life, to my PR Tasha for believing in a kid from the country and giving me my first opportunity and riding with me since day one, shout out to my Big Homies for showing me the ins and outs and what it takes to make it in this music industry, to all the dj’s who ever spun a record or just rocked with me in general I salute you, to all my fans, supporters, and loved ones I appreciate you all, and shoutout to the real ones all across the globe. Salute to you all.
