Meet Isak Jakobsson | Guitarist & Solo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isak Jakobsson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isak, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was eleven years old I had one dream that I knew was hard to realize. I had just started playing guitar and I knew it was meant to be, I loved it. Everyone told me that I maybe should dream of something else or “it’s just a hobby” but I had my mind set on doing it as a living. It has been an up and down life and yes nothing is ever easy but what is in life. After high school I started to sing and write songs. Right now I have released my first solo EP named Valley Fever and started my journey as a solo musician.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I just released my first solo album which captures a blend of Retro drums and guitars contrast against modern synth hooks and pads. It also has a very melancholic sound. I’m proud of everything I have released and all the people I have meet along the way. One thing I love about working with music is you’ll never know where it’s going to take you and what will be the next thing you do. What I’ve learned since starting my solo career is that you can never be too prepared and that you always need to think a few steps ahead. Personally I thought I was prepared in the beginning but realized along the way that I was not. Now I know better!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start the day with going to my favorite art museum downtown – The Broad. The entrance is free and the exhibitions are amazing. After the museum I would go and have a Vietnamese Banh Mi at Banh Qui in Hollywood – I recommend the chicken Banh Mi. Then later at night I would catch a concert at Hotel Café, also in Hollywood. I’ve been there many times, there is always great music and people! Perch L.A. is a rooftop bar Downtown, it has a beautiful view over the city. I would recommend going there around the time the sun sets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really have to say that my parents have always supported me and encouraged me to be who I want to be and follow my dreams, even though there has been tough times they always cheered me on. Also all the inspiring people I met while studying at MI (Musicians Institute), friends, classmates and faculty – you know who you are!
