We had the good fortune of connecting with Orlando Garcia Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Orlando, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been a big fan of photography so when my wife bought me my first camera I started taking pics for other brands and it’ kinda made me wish I had my own brand.

However I didn’t have a name for the brand and that ended up happening by mistake.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Off the bat I struggle accepting being called designer or creator. I usually say I’m just a person with a bunch of ideas but I’m working on accepting the titles.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that I haven’t stopped. I haven’t quit or given up on this latest idea of mine. I’m also excited about where I’m headed with the brand as far as creating without fear and just releasing what I really want to release.

What I feel sets me apart is the transparency and honesty I try to have with my customers from things that went well or didn’t go well. The thoughts behind a design and most important my current mood.

My honest answer for how did I get where I’m at professionally is another one I struggle to answer because it’s a mixture of I know I’ve had to accomplish something if I’m answering questions in an interview and feeling like I haven’t accomplished enough.

It’s not easy but my answer for the biggest challenge I’ve faced will always be “me”. I have to do better getting out my own way. Between self doubt, laziness and procrastination I feel like I’ve stopped the brand from growing bigger then what it could be.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned is to just trust that my ideas are “good enough” and that people really do like the brand more than I think. Some of the best pieces I’ve released were ideas I sat on for months before I finally released it.

What do I want the world to know about me ? I’m trying everyday to be the best version of myself. I’m still figuring it out but I promise you I’m trying.
About the brand? I would just want people to know that every time I see someone wearing ADC I’m genuinely humbled and I appreciate you wearing my idea with your outfit. My desire to see people wearing the clothing is bigger then my desire to own a yatch. I love this brand. Lol

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week in NYC ? Ok let’s see i would take them bowling on 44th st at bowlmor lanes for some fun. Then to coppelias on 23rd street. It’s a 24 hour “diner” with food that makes it not feel like a diner.

We can visit Angelica’s uptown on west 187th for drinks and appetizers.

And we would have to do a brunch on a Sunday at wherever DJ Ralphie Mercado or DJ Ves are at. Even if the food is ehh the music would be great lol. I could keep on going but this is about A Different Concept and not my love for food and music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Noel Veloz CEO of Hemincuff My wife
And ironically my depression.
