We had the good fortune of connecting with Tristan Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tristan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I spent 20 years of my life working as an employee. I was helping other companies thrive and prosper. Nevertheless, as an autonomous being, I couldn’t continue using my talents to empower entities that I did not own. I realized I was built to start my own business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m not the product of a long line of lawyers. In fact, I had never even met a lawyer until I was nearly an adult. I was born into poverty amidst drugs, crime, and despair. However, I was determined to make something of my life and overcome my initial circumstances. I focused in school and surrounded myself with encouraging friends, family, and mentors to get to where I am today.

About 7 years ago, I started the T.L. Brown Law Firm, P.C., a bankruptcy and immigration firm. We started in a small one room office with three desks. We now have a 2000 square foot space with 10 individual offices. We have had the pleasure of serving over 4,000 clients while maintaining stellar reviews online.

We are the biggest supplier of bankruptcy services to the Hispanic community in Southern California. We began advertising on Spanish radio and good word-of-mouth enabled us to grow to the new heights in the Hispanic demographic.

Challenges arose along the way, including the pandemic and unethical competition. However, we always found a way to steady the ship by cultivating loyal employees and providing competent, honest, and reliable services to the community. I learned that providing good services and being completely honest with clients (even if it causes us to lose the client) will provide the ultimate benefit to the company.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a fan of live music, I would want to take this friend to the amazing Hollywood Bowl for music under the stars on a warm summer night. Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles is a must try. A long drive along Sunset Boulevard at night is worth an experience, as well as a stop at the Comedy Store.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to the UCLA Law Fellows Program, Leo Trujillo, Tony Tolbert, Merhawi Keflezighi, Alex Lopez, and Nasiha Rose
