We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I was younger I developed a passion for studying more about cancer in children and the cause after visiting a children’s hospital. Though my research in in 6th grade, I learned that there are so many diseases and illness that stem from food related causes. I noticed there were so many people that looked like me diagnosed with food related illnesses that I later learned was a product of lack of education and access to resources, especially in the black community. I began the process of becoming a register dietitian and am currently completing my last semester at Howard University with the hope of one day opening my own health and wellness facility to help prevent and manage diseases through dietary changes geared towards people of color, especially the black community.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am most excited about sharing what I have learned with other while making an impact on generations to come. I have spent a lot of time learning not only information about food and how it impacts the body, but also the health disparities that exist within the communities of people of color and how our bodies genetically differ by race, gender, etc. I am excited to enter this new space of health and wellness while setting up a culture that is fun and motivational to help families, both adults and kids, achieve their fitness and nutrition goals in a way that is attainable, sustainable and not temporary.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting the area I would take them hiking. My friends know I love exploring, traveling and trying new things. What a better way to do that than seeing the world around you? Because I am from California, there are many hiking trails with beautiful scenery and that is probably one of the most rewarding experiences I would love to give them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really appreciate all the support I have received from my family who has been very involved in this health and wellness journey. From workout equipment to helping me learn more about meal prepping while supplying me with the resources to do so, they have really made a huge impact on my life.
