We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Tilley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I love this question because as I grow and mature in life, balancing work and life becomes more and more important. When I was first starting out producing music, almost all I did was work. I really had a work over everything mentality. It affected my relationships and my mental health. I not only neglected time with friends and family, I also didn’t spend enough time with myself. Today, the most important thing in my life is my beautiful wife, Taylor. Being married is so beautiful and she has helped me a lot with balancing work and personal time. At the end of the day I think the best thing you can do for yourself is have healthy boundaries. I definitely work less hours in a week than I used to, but I’ve learned to work more efficiently when I am working. I really have been enjoying the simple days and finding beauty in the areas of life not related to work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Right now I am most excited about being able to work with so many amazing artists. Besides my own artist project, this year I have releases with Emilee, Caroline Taylor, and Emily Vaughn and I are releasing our side project called ‘we’re ok!’ so be on the look out for those as well!

When it comes to my journey as a producer, I have certainly had some challenges, like trying to get connected to a music scene in Arkansas where this isn’t really a scene to connect to. I spent a lot of time driving to Nashville and flying to LA trying to get into any session I could. Thats how I’ve met some of my frequent collaborators that I still work with today! I think it’s important to always celebrate and be self aware about how much growth you’ve achieved, however, I know I have a long ways to go until I am where I want to be in my career and in life, and I am finding joy in that journey of growth!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the Culver steps in Culver City for a nice bite to eat or a nice drink for sure. Its such a vibe in the little downtown Culver area. I would definitely take them on a hike with a view of the ocean in Malibu, I think thats something everyone needs to experience in life. I would show them Super Domestic Coffee most likely because they have an incredible vanilla bourbon latte. I am a big fan of Great White in Venice or Larchmont Village they have great food and drinks. And of course the best burger in LA is Burgers Never Say Die.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Taylor, deserves the biggest shout out in the world. She is so incredible. She loves people so well and has the kindest heart, and she truly deserves the world. I am who I am today because of her love for me.
