We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Jetson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from the Russell neighborhood of Louisville, KY. It’s your standard low income neighborhood, there’s struggle and poverty but also a strong sense of community. You grow up knowing everyone around you. We look out for each other within our respective neighborhoods. The first thing it taught me was that the world can be hard, the second thing was that it can also be soft. Perspective is important.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art, as with everyone’s art, is a personal expression given physical form. I was raised in a family church where I served as a junior deacon for 10 years. When I got out of the church during my teenage rebellious years I spent time as a product of my environment, learning the world around me. After having kids and a spiritual awakening I learned to merge the two lifestyles, making music that is both fun to listen to and heavily prophetic/esoteric in nature. I spent a lot of time in my early twenties fighting against the local scene in Louisville as it was much different that it is today. It was very exclusive and alot of people felt too lame to participate, so I carved a lane for people to be themselves, with the help of Yons, Nick B and my DJ, DJ Deuce.
One thing I’ve learned is to strike a balance between creation and business and to not let one overshadow the other if you wanna do it for a living.
I want the world to know, or I suppose, the individuals of the world to know that it’s okay to be yourself. It’s okay to care about others and not feel lame for it. You don’t have to be as hard and cold as the world would like you to be, you free to be yourself. If it feels right to you, pursue it. People’s opinions aren’t set in stone, they change everyday, so don’t let others opinions set your life in stone. No dogma.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Haha, that’s a trick question. My best friend is from my neighborhood, so we would mostly move around the neighborhood itself, probably stop by Chopsticks house on 22nd, grab some smoke, hang out with our kids.

For a non local though I’d probably recommend 4th Street live for food, a few local shows for entertainment (there’s always something going on in the local music scene), stopping off at the waterfront if it feels nice and maybe shopping around the Nulu area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
You already know about Casey Powell, but I’d like to shout out Nick Burke in Cincinnati OH and Yons in Southern IN. They have absolutely helped me mold my style into something I enjoy making and they are down to experiment with me and my crazy ideas. Organizations, I’d like to shout-out AMPED Louisville and the LouiEvolve festival. AMPED is the Academy of Music Production Education and Development and they mostly spend time teaching the underprivileged youth of the area musical skills, and LouiEvolve is a local festival headed by Taylor Gunsauley and SCZ, and they do everything grassroots.
