We had the good fortune of connecting with $AINT and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi $AINT, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I would say what makes me truly happy are genuine interactions. Living in a city like New York or LA, any person can stumble upon a conversation that could alter their perspective on something in their day or life. I have had many instances where a simple conversation with a stranger answered a question that I asked myself previously that day or week. I feel as if the universe leads us to certain occurrences that we may not know we needed. I have an example where I had went through a break up, and I was so sad. I was hella in my feels all day and I found myself at Popeyes waiting for an order of fries (knowing that I’m mad allergic to Popeyes because they have seafood there) an elderly lady feels my vibe and turns to me and says “Whatever is it baby, just know it’s going to okay”. After that small interaction, just for a moment those few words changed how I felt. It brought me happiness and comfort that a stranger showed me how much they genuinely cared about me. She was a sweet lady. I love moments like that.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a projection of my life. To me the music that I write are audio and visual glimpses of real life events. I feel that in this era of my music a lot of it is inspired by my adolescent years. I’m writing about my younger self with my older mind. It’s very interesting, because as I record these records a movie of these events play in my thoughts. To me, these are memories that are unresolved. So all my new songs are me just me analyzing my past life. I would say my honesty within my lyrics and melodies is what’s drawing my listeners. I like music that makes me feel. I wanna give my audience a story that intrigues them. I would say that I’ve lived a crazy ass life and honestly I don’t think its rare. I think a lot of my music is relatable because I’m just a person at the end of day. My music is me. My art is me. I’m the only $AINT from Vis Valley in SF. So when people are down listen to my music they’re getting to know me in a way and I love that shit.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sheesh. I’m the type of person who is not really into showing people around touristy spots. I would honestly be hella chill. I would take my friends to any vegan restaurant just because I know vegan restaurants know how to throw down. I would also take my homies to cafes, just cause I like drinking fire tea. I would say going to any local shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, parks, etc. are always the move. Every time I hit a new city, I just wanna chill and enjoy the environment. I’m not one to have an itinerary. Good food, good music, and good vibes pretty much all I need. lol I might not be the best person to show people landmarks, but Imma fsho give them a great time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna shout out my life partner Makeda. I wanna shout out my best friend, engineer, & and producer TITOBANDITO (his whole family too).
I wanna shout out my mom and family.
I wanna shout out all my friends who are trying to make it in their chosen industry (I’M ROOTING FOR ALL OF YA’LL)
Lastly, I wanna shout out God for always looking out for my and loved ones.
All these people have shown me insane & incredible amounts of support, love, advice, and wisdom.
I wouldn’t be the artist and person I am today without the help of all the people that have shown up for me in my life.
I’M GRATEFUL FOR YA’LL!
