We had the good fortune of connecting with Kez Henriixx and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kez, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Originally it didn’t start off as me wanting to pursue and artistic career. I started writing music in quarantine because I was going through a really bad breakup. I couldn’t go out and do what I would normally do to distract myself from the thoughts of having my heartbroken. For weeks and months I would just write and write and noticed I would start to feel better. I remember sending an old buddy of mine an old song I made before and he seemed to like it. Between him and my father telling me I should try to take it serious, was really all I needed to hear. Ever since music has been my main focal point. What also really got me to pursue this as a career was knowing that I could have the power to impact someone else’s life. I was able to show someone that I don’t know from a whole In the wall and basically let them know like “ Hey I relate to you, you’re not alone”. Growing up an only child it was hard not really feeling like I had anyone there, music was really the only thing that held me down and made me forget. I love what I do, and I love why I do it.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I feel like what sets me apart from others is the fact that being from New York, most artists from here are hip hop oriented. My sound is more of a mix between pop and R&B. I think that when I tell people I’m an artists where I’m from they’re expecting me to rap or freestyle, it’s a pretty funny thing to see the look on their face when I start singing. I’m very excited about my first project I’m working on. I don’t have a date yet but I’ve been working around the clock to make sure the sound and the visuals are just satisfying all around. I was able to get here by just having the resilience to follow my dreams no matter the adversity or obstacle. It reflects in my work as well and that’s something that I know will keep pushing me ahead. It definitely wasn’t easy but well worth it seeing what I have accomplished since I’ve started. I just want people to know that what ever comes easy goes easy and nothing is given. I’ve learned to just trust my gut and not take no for an answer. If something doesn’t feel truly right to you, go back and do it again until you can’t stop listening to it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh I mean it’s New York you know? What’s not to do? There are so many bars and restaurants that are just absolutely amazing. Id take them to time square to start off just because it’s a must. Probably get them a chopped cheese, cause apparently not many people have heard of it. If it’s summer time take them to one of the close by water parks. Honestly New York is all about the crowd you carry. BBQs and cookouts are everything out here.
