We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Lee Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon Lee Richardson, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
This question has actually been heavy on my mind for the past couple of years and I’ve come to the conclusion that to me, success comes in two parts. The first part is to have complete ownership of my time so that I can have the freedom to live the life that I want to live. Most of us aren’t truly free. When you work for or sign to a company, for however much they pay you, the system is set up so that your employer essentially owns you for 40+ hours a week. And your work-life balance depends solely on what they allow. If they say you have to be at a certain place at a specific time, you have no choice but to do it or else they’ll take away your means of survival. And most companies take advantage of that.
The second part of success for me is to leave a positive impact on other people. Whether it’s directly helping people or possibly inspiring others through my actions, being a positive factor that helps someone achieve the things that they want to accomplish in their life is important to me. We’ve all needed that positive factor in our lives at some point or another.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a music artist and producer. Most of what I know is self-taught and during my journey, I’ve met a lot of people that have helped me along the way. Nothing about it is really easy. But like most things that are worth reaching for, it takes a lot of time and effort to fulfill the vision. And the journey is never-ending. Whenever one goal is reached, I’m immediately ready for the next one. But every time I do accomplish a goal, even if it’s a small one, it feels great because I know that I put the work in.
Right now, I’m excited about a couple of things. My debut album ‘Brando’ is out now and it’s a body of work that I’m really proud of. It’s the perfect introduction to me as an artist. But I also have a couple of other projects I’m working on that are dropping this year and I can’t wait for everyone to experience them! I can’t say much at the moment, but these new projects are definitely among some of my best work to date.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things in life is food and I particularly love to have good food from local restaurants that are unique to specific areas. So I would show my friend all of the restaurants and places in LA that have the best food they can’t get anywhere else. There’s a small Thai restaurant called “Ayara Thai” and to this day, I have not found another Thai restaurant in America that serves a better “Khao Soi Chicken Noodle.” And if you get the “When Tigers Cry” as an appetizer, the experience is even more elite. Another place I would take them is to a restaurant called American Beauty. It’s not too far from Venice Beach and they have a lunch section called, “The Window” that has a simple menu of smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, and fries. The first time I stopped by there, I got a chicken sandwich and I took it with me to Venice Beach to eat it there. It was so good that I drove back to the restaurant just to get another one. I can go on and on, but I would basically give my friend the best food tour of LA!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When it comes to my story and the accomplishments I’ve achieved in my life, there are so many people worth mentioning. First, my mother. She’s believed in me since day one and she’s always supported and encouraged my art. She’s an artistic person herself, so she’s definitely the one that I get a lot of my artistic traits from. Without her, I wouldn’t be the artist that I am today.
The second person is my brother and photographer, Roger Richardson. He’s also been there and supported me since day one. He has done all of my photos, the photography for my album covers, and his incredible work has played a huge part in helping me shape the image for my brand as an artist.
The third person is my girlfriend and actor, Manni L. Perez. Ever since we’ve met, she has always believed in my vision. She supports me and gives me invaluable input that continues to help me grow as an artist. On top of that, her own work as a talented actor inspires me every day.
The fourth person is my artist and good friend, Kendyle Paige. She’s an incredible singer and songwriter. We started collaborating about 5 years ago and together, we have been able to take our careers to heights we didn’t even think were possible. And we’re still only scratching the surface.
There are many more people that play a significant role in my life, but I don’t want to make this answer too long. lol They all know who they are though and I’m really thankful to have them all in my corner. I wouldn’t be the same person without them.
