Meet Rachel Deeb | Photographer, Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Deeb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work and life balance is something I am still learning to do! One reason why I am here now is because I said “yes” to every job – big or small – that came my way. Now I have a problem with saying “no” – which in reality, is probably more important than saying yes at this point. Two years ago I fell into a depressed black hole because I said “yes” to too many people. I forgot how to make time for myself and instead just gave it to anyone who needed my help. I realized when I take time for myself, I am able to be a better creator for my clients. I have a clear head and I have time to genuinely put in the effort for every project.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Something that I am proud about what I do is that I do a lot of different things! I am not just a photographer – I am a mural artist, videographer, creative director, graphic designer, editor and designer! I am proud that my job never gets boring. The other day I was hired by Warner Music Group to do chalk art for one of their artist’s showcase! So random! It was not easy getting to this point. I did a lot of stuff for free and I definitely put in the hours. Any advice I can tell the world is to be a genuine person, always say yes to every opportunity and never expect anything from anyone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting I would first show her all the local bars and restaurants I love going to such as Cafe Roze, Fox Bar, Rosemary & other East Nashville spots! Of course I would take her downtown because everyone should experience Broadway once in their lives! I love going to Whiskey Row and other bars that have rooftops! I would end our night out with a street hot dog – my guilty pleasure!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Edgar Moore, Alex Ferrari and Jeff Johnson are three very important mentors in my life. Edgar taught me how to use a camera and introduced me to people like Jeff who brought me on music video sets to show others what I could do. Alex gave me a chance with a job that truly changed my life and has guided me ever since. I have a lot of people to thank, but I could not of done it without these three.
