We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Hutt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistent hard work, authenticity and originality.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I combine music and golf. The song is the golf lesson. The goal is to get it stuck in your head so when you’re practicing you never forget the tip. This all evolved from me standing in the front of the camera and talking-giving a “normal” lesson. Eventually I added original music at the end of the tip, then started making the music the tip. This all evolved over roughly 5 years of creating content. I remember the first day I decided to “go for it” and film myself at the back of the Stanford driving range. It was terrible, I stumbled over all my words, it was embarrassing, and I was by myself! No was was even watching. I knew I had a long way to go and had to start practicing. I would rehearse what I was going to say in the shower and all day leading up to filming. Eventually after hundreds of hours of practicing my communication skills got better and better and I got more confidence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some favorite spots: Yoshi’s Sushi Bar, Village Pub, new concert venue in Menlo Park The Guild is awesome, La Taquerilla in San Francisco is incredible, wine tasting at Mindego Ridge in Woodside (killer pinots and chard), I love wine – favorite spot to buy wine is K&L – the people that work there are awesome, have to play some golf as well – would hit Pasatiempo or Presidio in San Francisco. Half Moon Bay is also awesome – hanging at the Ritz smashing a beer and oysters is epic.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Atomic Habits is a book that changed the way I approach work and creating habits. My family and fiancé Shannon have always been very supportive throughout my journey as well. I also wouldn’t be where I am today without my co founders Adeel and Mike who found me and brought me onboard Dryvebox. Being a part of a startup (let alone a golf startup) has always been a dream. I’ve learned so much throughout the process and couldn’t be more obsessed with what we’re doing.
