We had the good fortune of connecting with Pilar Freeman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pilar, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The initial thought process of starting my business was rooted in my personnel narrative; in other words, I took an analytical approach to my personal change to find a general solution that may be appropriate for others who share my experience or through observation of my experience could offer a solution for others. I have been challenged with an autoimmune skin disorder called psoriasis from a very young age. Because of this, my skin is susceptible to breakouts due to weather, stress, foods I eat and body products. In addressing my challenges with appearance, confidence, and self-appreciation, I set out to build a product and a company that would provide both a solution to the disease and build self-reliance, confidence, and self-value; hence “chameleon face” a line of beauty oils, with natural essential oils & CBD that address our inner self.
In addition, my work as a private, professional makeup artist set forth a platform on which choice was limited for use on clients with unique skin challenges such as mine. Hence I often found myself in a makeshift model of mixing my batches of natural essential oils and creams to use on them. Then, as a mother, I would be very selective with what products I use on my children. The importance of choice and having limited time in the busy sphere of our universe prompted the selection of the e-commerce business model with the narrow targeting of those customers seeking luxurious, boutique, high-quality skin treatment.
So the driving force in starting and developing my business process is that of Skincare. It is vital to understand that the starting a business process should never end, for if it does, so does your business; Inasmuch, I knew that creating and naming skin products when the time was right and with the right ingredients would be a sustainable business; thus I became familiar with CBD many years ago and all of its benefits. It has been linked to easing muscle aches and pains and improving the skin’s appearance, elasticity, collagen production, and helps with dark spots, fine lines, acne, and so much more.
The end result became our Chameleonface Alchemy & Oil brand, a luxurious hemp-based multi purpose face and body oil that is intentionally and thoughtfully made with high-quality ingredients sourced in the USA. Our products are created in smaller batches here locally, in downtown Los Angeles, to eliminate waste and to guarantee premium quality, purity and potency.
We currently have 4 offerings to choose from:
Luminous – Orange Essential Oil + CBD
Warrior – Bergamot Essential Oil + CBD
Stay woke – Eucalyptus Essential Oil + CBD
Xen – Lavender Essential Oil + CBD

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work as an entrepreneur encompasses so much. As a professional makeup artist and multi business owner my main objective is to ensure my clients feel beautiful from the inside out. In enhancing my clients natural appearance primarily through my CBD oils and then through my artistry whether it be between my offerings of Ombre powder brows or makeup application, it is important that my clients look and feel like their best selves. I’ve created a space of healing and rejuvenation through beauty. It is a place that my clients can let go of any inhibitions and just be, because they are enough as is. It is a high vibrating energy exchange. Good vibes from start to finish. I’m excited to share my talents and these products with those who sit with me because i know that they have been made with great intention and thought. I know that all of my products from start to finish from the inception to the delivery has been made with LOVE. I’ve gotten to this place in my career professionally by never letting anything get in my way. By taking my years of studying faces and different types of skin, including my own and making something that everyone can benefit from. Has it been easy? Immediately NO. Have there been challenges? Absolutely. But when you stop and visualize the bigger picture, then you’re able to keep going even when things don’t make sense. Life is not linear and neither are the roads to getting to where you want to be. Prayer, faith, believing in yourself, discipline, and hard work are all contributing factors in overcoming any challenges that have come my way. I’ve learned that timing is everything. Divine alignment is everything. Taking every single step forward, as tedious as it may be, is everything.
I think people should know and understand that as consumers we only see the end product. But behind that product is a real life person that started with an idea and took all the steps to developing it into what they see in front of them. Though it may look glamorous or perfect from the outside looking in, there is always a story. My story is filled with trials, failures, up hill battles and victories. That’s what makes the journey and the work I do and the product I’ve created so much more valuable.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well i grew up in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles so I’d have to start there! An early morning hike at the Griffith park observatory, then an actual visit inside the observatory, spending time looking through the telescopes and gazing over the city and showing them all the areas you can see from the magnificent views. We’d then get coffee at MARU coffee! Do a little vintage shopping on Vermont at squaresville and half off clothing, hit skylight bookstore with a little lunch at the Figaro Bistrot & Drinks at the Cara Hotel
We’d then have to visit the touristy places because what’s an LA visit without Hollywood blvd?! Check out a taping of Jimmy Kimmel, do some people watching on the blvd then dinner and drinks at Beauty & Essex or a little rooftop action at Mama Shelter! Maybe even catch a show at the Pantages Theatre to close out the evening!
Next up is Malibu of course! A Nobu reservation would be a nice photo op, but if not then a visit to the Malibu Cafe would ensure a great ambiance and outdoor dining.
Finally, Downtown LA has so many new and exciting places to visit and one of my faves besides the Broad museum is currently a Tupac exhibit “Wake me when I’m free”
Dinner and drinks at Fixins Soul kitchen at LA Live.
Some other faves are Tesse in West Hollywood, Crustaceans in Beverly Hills, the Regent Beverly Wilshire for drinks (because Pretty Woman of course), Rodeo drive for a different kind of people watching and window shopping and of course Lake Hollywood park for a picnic with the Hollywood sign in view!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All glory and honor goes to God first and foremost! Never could I have made it this far if it wasn’t for Gods grace and mercy over my life! To my partners in shine! My husband Ty who has taught me about entrepreneurship and has always created space for me to thrive in all of my creative endeavors & in pursuing my dreams. To My 3 beautiful children who have been my greatest teachers and inspiration. I’ve had them each at different times in my life and they have been exactly who I need. My daughter, Khafira 20, my best friend and soulmate she is everything I could have ever dreamt of. She is my rock. My son, Exodus 13, he is my gentle encourager, and wise leader. He always reminds me to keep going. And my newest lightbeam, my Solstice, 10 months, she has given me a new perspective and a new life. I look at her and remember why it is possible to start over at any age.
