We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Suarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In late 2006 I was let go from my day job and I just never went back, I had been playing some residency gigs in San Diego at the time and that was the start. Things kept growing and I kept learning how to evolve within this business of music, I continue to try and evolve consistently. Over the last two years during this Pandemic has been the ultimate test within the journey, I’ve been forced to continuously make myself more creative and so many ways with my music and content. The mindset always has to be set on constant evolution and progress, “adapt or go work at Home Depot”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As far as what separates me from others, I guess I don’t think of music or life that way. I think the best way to present myself and or my Art is by being honest and telling my truths within my music, if there is anything that “separates” (I don’t feel that’s the correct word really) one from another is honesty. No one can tell your truth like YOU, so I do that and let the rest fall into place.

Along the road to this moment that I’m in there have been many obstacles to overcome. As of recent, along with everyone else, it has been how to overcome being a full time musician (of almost seventeen years) during a Pandemic. I had just purchased a home for my mother and I to help her situation after the passing of my father when the Pandemic started, needless to say that has been a journey in itself let alone any other obstacles.

During this journey of overcoming obstacles my research in troubleshooting my situation brought me to find live streaming music on TwitchTV where I’ve recently been invited into their Partner Program on January 7th of 2022. Throughout the last two years I’ve been working towards Partnership work Twitch while building an amazing community of supporters | Fans | Listeners, this has been my most proud accomplishment thus far in my musical career.

I’ve met the most amazing people and friends on this platform, especially my Moderators (Mschivus, Meli1212, Annie_dg, ilivedinacake, yselda88, vitaminzinc, remillerart84) who have helped me tremendously on this journey to Partnership with Twitch and could not have been accomplished without them. This platform has helped me navigate the last two years and quite frankly saved me in so many ways, it has essentially turned into a business for me but it’s also a passion. A perfect combination.

I’ve learned so many lessons during this time but one thing I’ve learned that sticks out the most in regards to my Art and those who appreciate it is that, I don’t have to be perfect. Too many strive for “perfection” when it comes to producing music, and that’s fine. But conversely, I’ve learned that music is just the vehicle to let people in. When you realize that YOU yourself are the Art, than everything changes. It changed for me and I’m grateful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I would spend the week with them in nature, specifically Big Sur, CA since I’m currently in the central coast. There’s nothing like getting back to nature and the silence it brings, we all live such busy lives that it’s needed to make time for rest. I think the best way to recharge and redefine your enthusiasm for whatever you’re doing in life is to take time to experience nature, and what better place to do it than Big Sur.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mother & Father have always been my greatest inspirations but even more so as a grown man. They always made space for my siblings and I to be who we wanted to be and supported every step, I wouldn’t be the person I am today nor have had the successes I’ve had with music without their understanding and acceptance.
