We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashni Mehta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashni, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Incite Social is a social impact marketing and branding agency with a digital first, community-based approach. We work exclusively with purpose driven, women and POC-owned brands, campaigns, and non-profits to expand their digital footprint and amplify their impact.

Whether our clients are building representation, empowering woman artisans from India, or finding ways to incorporate Ayurvedic superfoods in our daily diet — helping the community is at the core of what drives us all.

What makes you happy?                                                                          Nothing makes me happier than being able to support purpose-driven brands that are women & POC-owned build authentic and engaged communities. It is truly a privilege to have the opportunity work with people who inspire me on projects that are making a positive impact on our society.

There’s something so special about working with founders who have the same commitment to social justice, diversity, authenticity, and equality as I do. But most importantly, seeing the impact we can make when we collaborate and grow together is what really brings me joy. Just within a year of launching Incite Social, I’ve had the opportunity to host a workshop at Columbia University to help students and young entrepreneurs use social media to expand their activism, put together the first-ever South Asian NYFW to create a global platform for South Asian fashion designers, and we’ll soon be launching a network of digital creators interested in using their platforms to promote causes they care about. I can honestly say, I work with some of the most intelligent and passionate creatives!

What should our readers know about your business?
It was clear to me very early on in my career that I was not going to have a traditional or linear career trajectory, mostly because I couldn’t choose just one field. I wanted to work in media, and be able to voice my strong political opinions, and express myself through fashion, and travel the world, and so much more. Launching my own marketing & branding agency has given me the creative freedom to work at the intersection of a wide range of industries, explore all of my passions, as well as develop new ones! My favorite part is being able to bring my ideas to life and work with the brands & people that inspire me on projects that will make a real impact.

While there have definitely been struggles and hard days, I have been very fortunate that growing and building my client base and community has been entirely organic. And that has definitely been one of the most rewarding aspects!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always recommend doing a stroll on Santa Monica beach followed by a beach sunset yoga class at Beach Yoga SoCal, brunch at The Rose, rooftop hopping at Perch Rooftop, E.P. & L.P., and The Standard.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so grateful to have the support of such an incredible community on this journey. I’d like to thank my family for always encouraging me to take risks and my friends for always reminding me to believe in myself. I want to give a huge shoutout to my clients who have supported me and believed in me since day one, I truly would not be here without you all. I’d also like to shoutout Trisha Sakhuja-Walia and BrownGirlMagazine.com for building an amazing platform for so many South Asian women to pursue their passions and find their community.
