We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary Stomaun (Picclo) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gary, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The biggest thing that I can say is that outsiders don’t understand is that the industry is cut throat. Things don’t normally go as expected. You expect things to go in the best way possible, when in reality, that’s not always the case. The biggest thing I take away from it is “Anything is Possible”, yet be realistic. Another thing is that relationships going a long way. You can have the best beats, best raps, or the best communication skills, however if you don’t have the relationships built, you will find yourself running a pointless race. Faith, Consistency, and Hard Work is all that’s needed to reach your goals in this industry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hello, My name is Gary Stomaun also known as Picclo, and I’m an Artist, Producer, Song Writer, and Musician from South Central, Los Angeles California. I have been active for the past 10 years. I’ve released two independent musical projects under my own collective known as CMXV Recordings. I have been able to work with plenty of Independent artists throughout the city, I’ve seen the highs, and lows that this music industry has to offer, and I’m grateful for every opportunity that has ever came my way. Plenty of times, I have gave up on this journey, just to come right back to what I have grown to love. One lesson that I have learned is that everything comes back to God. I can’t reach no goals whatsoever, if I don’t have God as my focal point. If I continue to work diligently at my craft, have faith trusting God, and remain consistent, anything is possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles has a lot of things to offer, however South Central is a lil bit different. If you coming to South Central food wise I’m taking you to three spots in particular: Steven Burgers on El Segundo and Normandie, Tam’s Burgers (Pick One), and Louisiana Fried Chicken on Normandie and Manchester. Both spots are hood staples that I’ll continue to support no matter what. If you at Steven’s you have to get the pastrami chili cheese fries. Its no better greater feeling than trying them for the first time. Tams got everything, so handle it accordingly. Now Louisiana, You gotta do the 3PC Combo with the Egg Roll on the side. Trust me its a whole vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this Shoutout to the Memory of Aola Johnson, and Beverly Joyce johnson-Chambers
