We had the good fortune of connecting with Bin Luo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is another way of saying opportunity. And high risks tend to pay off better. I believe risks have acted as a reminder and indicator in my life and career. It tests my skill level of problem-solving in either life or work as an indicator. It is also a reminder of how much I need to grow to hesitate less when decision-making.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a cinematographer that is good at using Asian expressions to tell Hollywood-looking stories. Creative east-west fusion image isn’t always an easy thing. Staying the balance between losing the style or the target audience’s attention is also challenging. I started with still photography and film school. Along the way, I think genuinely understanding the craft and using it with a solid personal style is another challenge. The only way to overcome it is to practice smartly, and of course, the number of practices could be various. I want to show how the film is a media that very generously welcomes every cultural background, and that is its natural beauty.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I guess that depends on the plan of the day or week. If in the mood for authentic Asian food, Pasadena, Arcadia, or Alhambra all have restaurants, and the recommendation will be San Gabriel Square or Downtown Pasadena. If for a visit and photograph LA, Gate of Angle, Ascot Hill park could be a spot also. The countless personal museum needs to be researched so it wouldn’t be expensive and meaningless.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dedicate to all my friends and crew members
