We had the good fortune of connecting with Saidy Salas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saidy, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?

I define success in moments when I can exhibit my many skills. I have studied, worked and personally experienced and learned through many years. Success is being authentically me a brown girl who stands proud in her own skin and beauty. I had to learn how to grow thick skin and that to me is the realist kind of success. Success is genuinely, organically connecting through beauty that can resonate with anyone who just wants to feel beautiful, empowered. I feel most successful when I look at one of my clients faces and I can immediately see confidence, strength and beauty. Success is sharing my beauty artistry and engaging about our most vulnerable moments in life. Through small details like eye brows, lashes and taking care of our skin all of it is an artistry. Success is really looking closer at the little things which ultimately change and impact women in bigger ways and that to me is building community and sharing my knowledge.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It all started with a dream and savings my mom gave me to build from. I started saving up my retail pay checks and obviously made a plan. I realized how much of a number we are disposable working for big corporations. I remembered getting in trouble with corporate for always giving my best to every client that sat in my chair. Being an artist has its down side when corporations are greedy artist are underpaid corners get cut. The entire corporation brand ingredients and quality of products and services provided cheapens. I decided to chase my dreams to create my own salon these are the things I’ve learned so far. I know commitment is everything I tell myself every day to really devote my time to my beauty salon and team; to work towards my goals full-time, stay on track, and stay focused. I believe in the labor of love “No masterpiece was ever created by a lazy artist.” Only compare yourself to your former self and no one else. Believing in yourself is paramount to artistic success and artistic happiness. My brand was founded by me a local Latina women sharing beauty within the Los Angeles community. I love my independence and the quality I bring to my clients. I love clean ingredients in my salon where everyone is welcomed and I really get to share time making everyone feel beautiful and at home one face at a time. I want the world to know that I believe in inclusivity and kindness in compassion, peace and love you know the stuff that actually matters the beauty within is very important to me and my brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d love for them to check out Kohs Kooking at a pop-up that’s forsure.
